That works for me with 60.9.1 under Windows 10, though I consider it risky. Thunderbird can display web pages but its not meant to be a general purpose browser. That is why they frequently don't add browser-centric security fixes until the next major version for example.

Does it display a blank pane or is Thunderbird displaying your last viewed message?

Can you get the default start page to work?
If you can't try selecting the inbox in your main account and restarting.

How about something else like a .jpg image file or a HTML page stored on your hard disk ?
If not check that mailnews.start_page.enabled is true and that the URL for your start page was stored in mailnews.start_page.url .

Do you normally read new mail in the "message pane" (it's normally underneath the folder listing), a tab or a window?

See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Start_Page_for_mail for more information.

To answer your questions,

- yes it shows a blank page

- using an image file on my hard disk failed to work a while ago.

- yes, mailnews.start_page.enabled is set to true and my start page is stored in mailnews.start_page.url.

- no i dont read new mail in a tab or a window. I read it regular as tb presents it.

So you can't display any start page, never mind the one you want?

Try using the button to reset it to the default start page, select the inbox folder in your main account (that temporarily disables displaying the last viewed message in the message pane when you restart) and use help -> restart with add-ons disabled to restart in safe mode. Do you see the default start page?

With your help, I found the addon causing the issue. Its TB Conversations. But I need that addon (which is an old version) for my older version of TB. I havent updated TB cuz many addons arent compatible with the new TB version yet. Thats why I use older addons including TB Conversations.

But I havent checked in a while if addons are now compatible with the new TB. With that said, do you know if the following addons are compatible with the new TB version?

- Hide local folders
- Theme font and size changer
- Dorando keyconfig

hide local folders supports version 68.
There is no version of the theme and font changer add-on or Dorando keyconfig add-on for 68.*. The author of Dorando keyconfig stated they want to update it but don't have the resources to do the complete rewrite needed, at present.

http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... e+and+font discusses several ways to set the font size.

Hey tanstaafl.. Wow thank you dude.

- Since Dorando isnt working on the new TB, do you know of ways to just bind 2 keys: 'R' for reply to mail and 'N' for new mail compose?

- Do you know if its possible to theme elements in TB using CSS?

- Does DOMi or DOMi Plus work in the new TB?

The CustomizemyBird add-on doesn't support version 68. The author recommends using the CustomCSSforTB add-on instead.

Monterail Dark2 for TB >68 is an example of the equivalent to a complete theme implemented as an extension.

http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... #p14845566 talks about using "the userChromeJS extension to modify key bindings in Thunderbird 68. (for advance users only)".

Morat has several posts about using the browser toolbox (Thunderbird calls it the Developer Toolbox) instead of the DOMInspector add-on such as http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... #p14850813 , http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... #p14829210 , http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... t=+toolbox and http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... #p14845870

Macro Programs like autohotkey, autoIt, and macro express can handle customizing hotkeys and keystrokes for TB or any other program.

CustomCSSforTB doesn't really handle font sizing of the TB UI interface. If you understand a bit of CSS you can accomplish anything and more that theme and font size changer did by inspecting the CSS located at https://github.com/JYLD/User-CSS-For-Fi ... erbird.css

CustomCSSforTB is excellent stuff and highly recommended. It just doesn't do much customizations for fonts and font sizes.

Hi tanstaafl,

I'm a little confused here. I looked at pics of Monterail Dark2 for TB. Is this supposed to darken all of TB like TT Deep Dark? So far in the pics is looks like it only darkens the left mail pane unless I'm wrong.

So I assume this addon will help darken all elements in TB to look like TT Deep Dark, including font colors?

No. Monterail Full Dark 2 for TB>68 would be a closer match. It also darkens the folder listing, the top of the compose message window etc.

No I don't think CustomCSSforTB will do what you want. If you understand CSS you could use all or parts of the CSS at the github link I gave as a starting point and then modify it to get the look you desire.

You may also find some css to help do what you need in this forum message from Taanstafl
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Bad_Eyesight_-_Thunderbird lists several other dark themes. Perhaps Monterail Full Dark?

See https://github.com/conema/monterail-fulldark/issues/22 for instructions about how to change the light grey for the mail toolbar to a darker color. I suggest you also see what tweaks you can make using the CustomizeMyBird add-on. It lets you specify custom colors for window headers for example.
or from Morat in this thread http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... p=14858083
