Firefox asks for password to copy password

Post by ibewlu »

I don't have a master password set, but when I want to copy a password for a website, FF75 asks for a password which is my PC logon. I checked about:config security.ask_for_password and it is set to 0 - how to fix this?

New feature: https://support.mozilla.org/kb/lockwise ... ion-prompt

There's a preference to turn this off temporarily: signon.management.page.os-auth.enabled

In general, it's better to use a Master Password than rely on the OS Auth feature. See: https://support.mozilla.org/kb/use-mast ... red-logins

Thanks Jscher2000, it's working just fine now. Firefox needs to back off, their attitude seems to be that they think we are too stupid to take care of things like this.

As the earlier post alludes to, this setting is temporary and planned to be removed: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1626778

Please report your objections to doing so, though there doesn't seem to be much transparency about how these decisions are arrived at or if user feedback is incorporated at all...

I have expressed my feelings with support feedback, but as you said, they usually do their own desires and ignore the user.

I have a similar problem. I updated Firefox and when I went to look up a password using the eye, it asked for my Firefox password.
I never had to use it so I have no idea what it is.
I had to use restore point to be able to see them.
How do I find out what my Firefox password is when I update Firefox?
Thank you in advance.

It's the operating system password.

Yes, I did. It didn't tell me how to find my OS password.

Not sure if there will be a 76.0.2 build, but I would think there would if the feature is causing failures and has been disabled.

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1636511 Disable the OS authentication prompt from about:logins due to abnormally high failure rate
