Scrolling with mouse wheel: strange behaviour.[Linux.]
Hi,
Recently, I've come across this strange behaviour: I cannot use the mouse wheel [preferred method] to scroll down pages. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not.
Refreshing the page does not work, neither does the disabling of the extensions.
I have tried to disable the extensions one by one, and/or all of them or go to safe-mode. In safe mode it is also a hit and miss. However, there's no point in doing all these as some of the extensions are required and as such using Firefox in their absence is pointless.
The same behaviour is not present if you were accessing the same url in Google's Chrome or Vivaldi.
Now, this is the strange bit: if you try to adjust a setting on an extension that has a dropdown menu and this dropdown is over the page, then you can scroll up and down behind it.
This behaviour is present with all those extensions that have dropdown menus: the ones that I can you as examples are: AdGuard AdBlocker, Simple Translate, mate Translate, etc.
My version of Firefox is ESR 68.10.0 Centos Linux redhat 1.0, 64-bit.
Have you come across this behaviour, and if so how did you manage to fix it?
I would like to get the scrolling back because it is becoming very annoying.
Thanks.

Re: Scrolling with mouse wheel: strange behaviour
Any particular pages where you have trouble scrolling?
Fire 750, bring back 250.

Hi,
Not that I can give you right now.
They're mostly news pages that their content changes.
However, I will post back with a collection of static pages.
thanks.

Another strange thing:
If I open another instance of the browser and paste the above address, then I can scroll up and down with the mouse wheel with no problem.
I really want to know/curious as to what is going on behind the scene?

Create a New test Profile, don't add anything..
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Creating_a_ne ... on_Windows
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/pr ... x-profiles
Takes a few minuter and you won't loose the current one.

Hi,
Thank you.
Although your advice is a workaround to clear things up, it did not work, unfortunately.
A clean profile, without any additions, will more or less work as expected.
However, I have spent a lot of time fine-tuning FireFox so as to behave as I need it to work. For example, privacy and security settings, tabs, required extensions, etc.
Anyway, I followed the advice, created a new profile, and copied those folders and files as per that KB page. Then installed a few of the extensions.
It worked for two minutes and then back to this very annoying state: scrolling stopped, but it works if there's a drop-down menu is hanging over the page.
Very frustrated.
HELP.
Pleeeeeze.
Thank you.

(Do you have the duplicated functionality extensions enabled at the same time?)
Fire 750, bring back 250.

Hi there,
I am sorry I don't understand what you mean by duplicated functionality?
The test profile was a clean, new profile as described above.

I am sorry, it 'evidently' did not.
It lasted for two minutes, if you care to read my reply.

In your original Profile, you seem to have extension that overlap in capability.I am sorry I don't understand what you mean by duplicated functionality?
Was wondering if you have them running at the same time?
Run it for some time - clean, i.e., no extensions & confirm that it works as expected.A clean profile, without any additions, will more or less work as expected.
The point is to test, cleanly.and copied those folders and files as per that KB page. Then installed a few of the extensions.
If things work cleanly, then you can try to figure out why it breaks in your original Profile.
If clean works, & you add back your "folders and files", & it still works, that kind of tells you something.
And then if you add your extensions back in, & it breaks, then that too kind of tells you something. Time to look at your extensions...
