Is FileLink really 'free'?

I have Thunderbird 60 running on a Windows 7 Pro (64 bit) SP1 computer. I use the IMAP mail server.

I notice when I try and send a very large file, T'bird asks me if I want to send that file via FileLink. I have been using that for a year or so, without any problems.

This site: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/fi ... ttachments tells me about T'bird having an agreement with Box, and explains how to set up an account.

Following the instructions on that web page, I went to Tools->Options->Attachments->Outgoing and tried to set up a Box account. These instructions imply (but do not state) that this Box service is free, and I certainly am not paying now for such a service. But when I get to the Registration step, all I see is a $25/month business account, with a note that there is a 14 day free trial.

Already on the Outgoing tab is a program by the name of 'We Transfer'. I have no idea how that entry got there, but I assume that T'Bird put it there initially. That must be the program that is handling my current Filelink large attachments. If I go to the We Transfer website, there is also a charge for their services.

So is the T'bird support page on the website out of date, and now We Transfer replaced Box as the large file transfer firm, and T'bird automatically added it to my Outgoing tab as a free service? And therefore I don't need to set up an account?

I think https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/fi ... ttachments is out of date.

https://www.box.com/pricing/individual states an individual can upload a 250MB file for free but requires you to signup. If you want to use Box, try creating an account for an individual using a browser before you add it to the list.

I found that my Windows 7 laptop did not have an entry for Attachments-> Outgoing. I selected WeTransfer, since I know that it works well, and I didn't have to register or sign up for anything.
