Okay, let's see what we've got...

Here's the upload window, so how do I find a 'name' column?

I can't see any way to alter anything.

And all my folders are sorted in name order, no problem there.

Perhaps you could post a screen shot of what you are seeing with that "upload window". http://kb.mozillazine.org/Posting_a_scr ... _the_forum

At the right side of the line with the question mark at far right of that image are two icons, the left most of the two has a drop down indicator. If you select that drop down are you given the option for "Detailed" view?

It gives options of preview pic sizes, or a list, or 'details', which is also a list.

If you click on "details", you would then have a Name column to click on to reverse the sort direction of the items listed.

Aside from that, there may be a context menu from your thumbnail display field, which should have a "Sort by ..." entry, from which
you can choose property to be sorted by, and the direction. I can't say for certain, as I've never in my life used any
display view except the "Details" one.

A directory listing (File Explorer, or whatever they call it) can be sorted in one order.
And the "file picker" for that directory, can be sorted in a different order.

So you look at a directory listing, & it is "in order".
But if you were to upload all the files in that directory, they would (also) be "in order" - but potentially in a different order.
(And then, what the site you uploads to does with what you've sent them, is anybody's guess.)

#1, directory listing (Name order)
#2, file picker listing (Type order)

Okay, that's something new, thanks...

However, this only happened with files from one folder. And when I moved those files to another folder it didn't happen, just as it hadn't happened previously. It is possible, of course, that I accidentally touched that (hardly visible - why is there no black on the screen?) arrow and upset the applecart.

Yes, on checking it seems that the arrow is still the wrong way uploading from that one folder. Thanks again, mystery solved

Of course, it would never have been a mystery if Windows used words instead of icons and black instead of very pale grey...
