VCRUNTIME140 1 dll was not found
Firefox failed this morning. It opens OK but none of the links or bookmarks are active. I refreshed several times, deleted the add-ons and rebooted to no avail. When I tried to reinstall I get the message that the file "VCRUNTIME140 1 dll" was not found and the installation does not complete. I Tried several times. When searching for a solution I came across others with the same missing file problem. Now I am unhappily using Chrome.

Re: VCRUNTIME140 1 dll was not found
This issue can be caused by a corrupted or incomplete Visual C++ installation that is missing runtime components (Redistributable Packages) required by Firefox.
You can try to reinstall this component.
Visual Studio 2015, 2017 and 2019:

Re: VCRUNTIME140 1 dll was not found
Thanks for the response. I do not have Trend Micro. I have tried everything suggested to no avail. The last failed install of Firefox reported "Couldn't load XPCOM." I then Restored Windows and that allowed Firefox to install. The restore point was only 2 days old but it still took 45 minutes to complete. Maybe that is normal. That is the 1st time I have used Restore. Now I am happily back on Firefox after 8 hours of effort.

Re: VCRUNTIME140 1 dll was not found
In this case, FF has its own version of vcruntime140.dll that it installs into its' installation directory that it works with (rather then the general system-wide version that may exist in /Windows/system32).This issue can be caused by a corrupted or incomplete Visual C++ installation
(From what I understand) A/V go wonky end up deleting parts of the FF program install - things like vcruntime140.dll, & things break with that.
Fire 750, bring back 250.

This file isn't included in Firefox, see:
Bug 1624546 - Include vcruntime140_1.dll for VS2019 16.5 x64 from the redist directory in the package

(Thanks. I wasn't sure whether "VCRUNTIME140 1 dll" was a typo in the OP or not.)
