Morat and therube,

Are you both or either of you talking re: Youtube-DLG?

Trying to follow this thread - the links - YouTube Video Downloader http://rg3.github.io/youtube-dl/ - and http://ytdl-org.github.io/youtube-dl/download.html I get 404 error messages for.

If those links are not for Youtube-DLG, then can you please share the links for the application you're talking about?

Is it then, after downloading the application you're referring to I then have to download the ffmeg and install that as well?

If so, does it matter where I download and install ffmeg?

Will that YT downloading application you're referencing the appear as an icon on my FF tool/task bar so I just click on it once the YT video is playing?

Thank you both.

I read a post which shared .... https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/91449?hl=en where you're supposed to be able to change the quality of the video you're watching by choosing Settings> Quality. I don't see any cog where it represents Settings to change the quality in FF. Can you pls share where that is and under which FF icon?

Thank you.

I see in YT I can choose the cog wheel icon beneath the video and choose 1080p and even choose Theater setting.

But, the words in the YT videos are still tiny and not discernible.

Here's the video but I can't attach a jpg in this forum of the screenshot of what I see.

I'm not familar with Youtube-DLG.

YouTube Video Downloader ( i.e. youtube-dl.exe ) is a command line utility. It has nothing to do with Firefox.

The youtube-dl.exe, ffmpeg.exe and ffprobe.exe executables belong in the same folder. The ffmpeg.exe and ffprobe.exe executables are optional.

The ffmpeg.exe executable is a command line utility that converts audio or video formats.

The ffprobe.exe executable is a command line utility to display media information.

If the links are not working, then I don't know of any alternative links. GitHub took down the pages recently.

There is at least 1 website working as of Oct 31, 2020

Unfortunately the original link I had saved in my bookmarks (from the Github site) is now dead.

While it looks legit... looks can be deceiving...
I would be wary that it is not a look-alike site...

Maybe it is legit... don't know?
He always used to publish hashes for his downloads. Don't see that here...

VideoHelp.com links to that site also, https://www.videohelp.com/software/youtube-dl, so that makes me less wary.

My point is a site can be faked.
So day 1, a site disappears (taken down).
Day two, a new site pops up.

Sure, the new site appears to be the same... but to me, I would be cautious - until you can be somewhat confident that this new site is in fact legit.

You being deliberately awkward here? You certainly didn't look very far before spouting that -

https://yt-dl.org/download.html
Remember youtube-dl requires Python version 2.6, 2.7, or 3.2+ to work except for Windows exe.

Windows exe requires Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86) and does not require Python that is already embedded into the binary.

To install it right away for all UNIX users (Linux, OS X, etc.), type: sudo curl -L https://yt-dl.org/downloads/latest/youtube-dl -o /usr/local/bin/youtube-dl
sudo chmod a+rx /usr/local/bin/youtube-dl

If you do not have curl, you can alternatively use a recent wget: sudo wget https://yt-dl.org/downloads/latest/youtube-dl -O /usr/local/bin/youtube-dl
sudo chmod a+rx /usr/local/bin/youtube-dl

You can also use pip: sudo pip install --upgrade youtube_dl

This command will update youtube-dl if you have already installed it. See the pypi page for more information.

You can use Homebrew if you have it: brew install youtube-dl

To check the signature, type: sudo wget https://yt-dl.org/downloads/latest/youtube-dl.sig -O youtube-dl.sig
gpg --verify youtube-dl.sig /usr/local/bin/youtube-dl
rm youtube-dl.sig
