Pages load and then jump up (or occasionally down)

I set my Firefox to autoupdate and this problem has been occurring in the last few releases and still persists in the latest version 83.0.

It happens on several websites but strangely not on all of them. Initially, I thought it might be related to loading or lazy loading images and ads but this doesn't seem to be the case - or at least disabling lazy loading doesn't eliminate the problem.

I've also disabled smooth scrolling and autoscrolling - no difference.

I know that others using Firefox have encountered this issue as well.

Some of the sites are hosted on dedicated servers that I manage. Repeated scans reveal no malware or altered files on the servers.

I've also more than one run antimalware and AdAware scans on my Windows 10 desktop in case it was mybsystem or some sort of browser hijack or corruption - nothing found.

I then did a reset of the latest Firefox version to factory defaults. That didn't help either.

Any thoughts on how to further troubleshoot and resolve this issue? or a workaround?

I see that you performed a "reset" but have you tried Firefox' "Safe Mode" yet?

This could also be a problem with hardware acceleration in Firefox.

You may have switched on caret browsing.
You can toggle caret browsing by pressing the F7 key.
Options -> General: Browsing -> "Always use the cursor keys to navigate within pages"

No. I have hardware acceleration turned off (since this problem started) and caret browsing is not enabled (never was).

Started in safe mode. No issues.

Returned to regular mode. No issues.

This was happening quite regularly in the past but somewhat intermittently. Now the problem seems to have vanished.

I have been both busy and under the weather this past week so I can't say for certain when I last experienced this issue, although obviously it was still happening when I started this thread on November 24th, 2020, and when I bumped the thread on November 28th, 2020, so some time in the past 2 days.

Possibly resolved in the latest Firefox update? Currently running version 83.0 64-bit.

Hi DJ,
Happy to read that the error has been fixed.

Sometimes...not always.....running Firefox' Safe Mode & then re-starting normally, resets "some things"
& eliminates the error.

It's sort of the 1st thing to try.
