Can you please tell me the last version of Thunderbird that included 'never check for updates'?

I don't know. However, https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1269626 and/or http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... #p14873056 describes how to create a policy in the windows registry that prevents Thunderbird from checking for updates.

Keep in mind that help -> about Thunderbird always checks for updates regardless of what the update settings are. So if you ever want to check what version you are using use help -> troubleshooting information instead. I think Mozilla also has the ability to push a security update that bypasses at least some of the update settings, though they very rarely have used that feature.

I've used Thunderbird for 20 or more years. I cannot go with Thunderbird on the new platform they adopted, because I am not willing to have my profile permanently changed. When I updated last time, I found UI changes that I didn't like, so I decided to go back to the previous version, only to discover that my profile had been permanently altered. This was totally unacceptable to me. In trying to repair the situation, my email was nearly lost to me, with 20 years of correspondence in it. Thunderbird should have warned users about what they were doing. Better yet, they should not have done it at all. Such a radical change was not necessary at all. It is time to consider that there can be multiple versions of Thunderbird, on one hand based on the device you are using. I don't need phone considerations on my desktop Thunderbird. I need a strictly desktop Thunderbird. On the other hand, different people like different user interfaces, and users should be accomodated.

I believe Thunderbird 60 was the last version to use the "Never check for updates" feature.

Just to make sure that things are clear, we're not Mozilla. As it says in the right hand column of this page, "mozillaZine is an independent Mozilla community and advocacy site." We have no control over any changes in function or UI appearance.
