Hanging

Post by i_am_jim »

It has begun hanging my desktop.

Occasional. Not repeatable.

Happened this latest time when I went to a link then returned.

Win 10 ver 1909
TBird ver 78.6.0

I guess I'm not clear on the technical differences between hanging vs crashing.

First, I have not added or changed any add-ons.

What I meant was Tbird froze my machine requiring a cold shutdown.

The link says "A crash is what happens when Firefox closes or quits unexpectedly. After a crash, you should see the Mozilla Crash Reporter appear."

It doesn't close or quit. When it freezes I have to press and hold the power button on my tower until the computer turns off.

I intended this as a report -- I wasn't seeking help.

A report to who, and for what purpose? You realize we are not MoIlla, right? We don't maintain the program. And while the title of this sub-forum includes the work "Bugs" the purpose of this area is to discuss specific, identified bugs with a view of identifying work-arounds or solutions. So far, not specific bug has been identified here, just an intermittent failure.

Yes, it is. Exactly as I mentioned in my previous post.

But we’re still not Mozilla and you don’t have much information for anyone to work with even if we were. It’s an intermittent issue and you have no specific steps to cause it to repeat the crash, etc. Those facts make it rather difficult to understand what is causing the problem.

How often do the crashes occur?
Is there any consistency in the site you are visiting when the crash occurs?
Have you tried running in Mozilla Safe Mode for a week or so to see if a crash occurs when extensions are not active?

Moving all of this to Firefox Support.

He's NOT crashing. "What I meant was Tbird froze my machine requiring a cold shutdown."

And this isn't a Firefox issue. "TBird ver 78.6.0".

---------

Now, if Tbird froze your computer on shutdown then you have bigger problems than Thunderbird. Something with your PC or Win10 OS.

That whole system freeze makes morat's suggestion worth pursuing. Neither Firefox nor Thunderbird would normally cause that to occur.
Happened this latest time when I went to a link then returned.

From that it's not clear whether it was all within Firefox or if the link was opened in an email message.
