Memory Error When Downloading Large Files

Post by darkrats »

I'm not sure this has been asked about before. I'm not even sure it's a Firefox bug, but when downloading large files from this particular online storage host, Firefox stops at a certain point and gives me this error message:

Write error: [Exception... "Out of Memory" nsresult: "0x8007000e
(NS_ERROR_OUT_OF_MEMORY)" location: JS frame ::
blob:https://mega.nz/8b01a41c-4966-484f-b25a-33a722628004
:: MemoryIO/this.write :: line 103115" data: no]
We recommend you install the MEGA desktop app to download
large files. (or use Chr**e)

I end up using a different browser, when I would prefer to use Firefox. This error message shows up in all of the recent releases of Firefox. Is there a setting that can deal with this? If not, any chance of a future release of Firefox that includes a fix for this error?

Moving to Firefox Support as no specific bug has been reported here and no other reports of the issue have been seen on the forums.

Have you tried starting Firefox in Mozilla Safe Mode? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode
If no improvement using Safe Mode, do you have the same problem if you create a new profile and test it with no extensions or non-default themes installed?

MEGA might be temporarily using local storage for downloading the file and there is a maximum for what is allowed, so for very large files you can hit this limit.

Are you using their extension ?

I have tried Firefox in Safe Mode with the same result.
I just noticed this small thread on Reddit about this problem.

Could you comment on this? Seems to be a conflict between Firefox and Mega.
I'm not learned enough to understand all of it. My workaround has been to switch browsers temporarily, but sure would rather stay on Firefox.

I don't use their extension now, but when I've used it a long time ago, I did not get any error message no matter how large a file was being downloaded. And, I don't get a error message if I use any other browser besides Firefox. I think 'dickvl' is on to something when he mentioned local storage. Seems I've seen a reference to this local storage at one time. If that the case, and if it is only a problem with FF, then there should be a setting I can change to increase the size of that local storage, either directly in FF or indirectly inWindows (7).
