I received an update this morning to Build ID 20210222084406, but it is still 87.0a1.

And it will remain version 87.0a1 until it becomes 88.0a1, which is probably very soon (possibly tonight, maybe tomorrow).

my guess 88a1 will be in the next update going by the Merge update date
. The official Firefox 86 RC 3 builds are out

You’ve just been upgraded to Firefox Nightly 88!
I understand the exclamation mark for the release version of Firefox. But a new version number isn't much excitement for Nightly. In fact, since it is an extra update it probably has less in it than a usual Nightly update. (And developers have been holding off on big changes for the past week, and unless they were well prepared they probably didn't get a big patch into this incremental release.)
But, 88 is here.
