Discussion of general topics about Mozilla Firefox

Hi Guys 'n' gals,
Just a quick one to ask if anyone/everyone has noticed a dramatic slow down when D/L'ing or loading
any video/s from YouTube.
Started about a week or three ago but not sure about the exact date.
My usual routine is D/L'ing "The Techguy" (Leo Laporte), his weekly Saturday, Sunday shows & Security Now (Steve Gibson) on Tuesdays).
My D/L speed has not changed as other sites are still functioning as per "normal." (No slowdown at all.)
They now crawl down at between 30 kbps to less than 100 kbps.
Before it was up to 2 to 3 MBps.
This is using either Firefox v62 to v93.
Doesn't make any difference which version I use.
The videos are all about 2 to 2.5 hrs duration or ~400 Meg & now take around 2 + hrs to D/L.
Clearing the cache & cookies does not help.
Any feedback is appreciated.
Thanks for the feedback.
Thing is though, that FDM is not involved with this problem.
I think it's due to a new YT D/L'er extension that I'm trying out.
YouTube Downloader....by "al3k_popov." Has around 64,500 users.
Been through about 7 of them now & they all have weird Options/Settings & Affiliations to some "strange" sites.
Shame that the "Easy YT Video D/L Express" stopped functioning due to YT/Google playing games again & changing things that just worked.
The author of........ ^ the extension is trying his best to keep it working but failing badly due to "them.". AFAICS.
Will keep looking for one that works.
Download Helper looks like the only one that does at least work....even if a tad slowly.
I tried downloading a video with youtube-dl command line. It's super slow.
format code: 134
resolution note: 640x360, 360p, 682k, avc1.4d401e, 30fps, video only, 290.89MiB
Maybe his channel is getting throttled for bad mouthing Windows 11.
Leo doesn't like Windows at all.....Look at all the problems they're having with v11.
So many bugs in a "new" OS.
This extension only D/L's at the speed I mentioned.
Doesn't matter which YT video I try. They're all damn slow using that extension.
Scrapped it & went a'lookin'.
Will hope that Easy YT video D/L'er Express gets fixed & that Google leave things alone.
It worked fine.
Odd; the Easy Youtube Video Downloader Express by Dishita works fine for me, and it's as fast as usual. Just FYI, in case it has any bearing on your issue.

Sometimes YouTube changes their coding (or whatever), and then Dishita has to update the addon. This usually takes a few days.
(With SeaMonkey & FlashGot, downloading, externally through Net Transport [I up'd it to 9 threads there], I was getting 900 KB/s. [on a 350 MB .webm download]. FlashGot is old, no more updates, so my choice of download is, eh, rather limited.)
Yep, youtube-dl (at all default settings) is dog slow.
yt-dlp ran rather speedily, hard to say for sure, but in the multiple MB/s range (at it's defaults, .webm, so 248+251, a/v I suppose that is, 1.18 GB.)
Fire 750, bring back 250.
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:18.104.22.168) Gecko/20110420 SeaMonkey/2.0.14 Pinball CopyURL+ FetchTextURL FlashGot NoScript
Yes...I know about YT/Google changing their code & Easy YT Video D/L'er Express always tries to update to compensate for those damn changes.
Probably because I'm not running the latest version of Firefox.
Just tried with v79 & 93 & Easy YT .......Express works fine.
Nice & quick too.
Proper PITB that Google keeps upping their damn code.
All to do with their "new" rules re; Protecting Copyright.
No more "fair use" or "Personal use only" apparently.
Just tried to go to YT help page in v62 & none of their links function.
Shows how stupid they are.
NOTE: I have way too many versions of Firefox available....but I only use 1 or 2 older ones.
Hate the supposedly "new look & features" they forced on us.
(and he can't continue with youtube-dl for the moment ....)
Thanks for all the replies.
Guess I'll just have to use v79 or v93 + now.
