Malware?

Post by MozillaMonkey »

Something really screwy started happening with my browser starting yesterday.

I was watching streams and my screen went totally white/grey and locked.
This happened several times.

Later I searched in Google for a page I always get.
This time I got a totally different search result.

I am typing in a text box at a site that has formatting options at the top.
I choose Bold or Italic etc. It has no effect now!

Other weird effects.
I cleared FF cache but that didn't help.

Suggestions?

Have you tried starting Firefox in Mozilla Safe Mode? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode
If no improvement using Safe Mode, do you have the same problem if you create a new profile and test it with no extensions or non-default themes installed?

Thanks Dan.
I created a new profile and the problems went away.
So now I need to carefully bring my new profile up to date.

I had installed a couple of new extensions yesterday
and likely one of them caused the problems.

Something weird is happening now though.
I imported my bookmarks (maybe a mistake).
I click on a bookmark link and it opens a new tab.
But GONE are all my bookmarks in the tab!

That never happened before.
I don't recall ever having to tell Firefox to keep the bookmarks visible all the time.

There are now 3 options for Bookmarks Toolbar visibility. That was a fairly recent change but, then, what wasn't?

Thanks xanthon, shortly after I made my post I figured out one of the options.
The bookmarks now show up all the time again. :)
