How many accounts can Thunderbird handle?

Post by foxguy »

I'm getting ready to install Thunderbird and import everything from Outlook Express.

I have over 50 email addresses that I wish to download every day. Outlook Express can't handle that many. How many can Thunderbird handle?

TIA :omg: :omg: :omg:

Accounts are based on unique mailboxs (what server and username), not email addresses. I know plenty of people have used over a dozen accounts in a profile, I don't know if there would be a problem with fifty. If you have an account that accepts email sent to multiple email addresses http://kb.mozillazine.org/Multiple_iden ... il_account can be used to let you choose what From: address you want to use when sending a message.

If there is a problem with fifty accounts you could use multiple profiles and configure them to store email in a common mail directory. So while you would have to use multiple shortcuts or the profile manager to switch profiles to check for new mail for all of the accounts, you could read any accounts stored messages from any profile.

Several IMAP email providers support automaticly fetching and merging messages from multiple external POP accounts into the IMAP accounts inbox every 15 minutes. The benefit is that as far as Thunderbird is concerned there's only one account. You might consider using something like that to minimize the number of accounts that Thunderbird would have to be aware of.
