Can Michael Kroft's Session Manager be found anywhere online

Post by nap_blownapart »

Ever since FireFox switched to WebExtension, I feel like the heart of the project has stopped beating. I still use FireFox, but I'm lost without the add-ons that tied up all the loose ends that browsers leave untied. It appears to me that the add-on community was thrown out with the old API. Of the add-ons that were most important to me; NoScript, Tree Style Tabs, Session Manager, and FireTitile, I sorely miss the later two.

I have tried some other current FireFox session manager add-ons, but they don't come anywhere near meeting my needs. I currently use WaterFox and FireFox, but neither are ideal; the former for it's age and deprecated status on some sites that are important to me, and the later because there are way too many idiosyncrasies that I would call bugs and privacy vulnerabilities. I have no desire to move to any other browser engine as I've been using FireFox for over 20 years, know how to drive it, really like and trust it (in spite of my earlier comment).

I've noticed the http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... start=3465 topic was locked due to the number of replies being made. Whilst I haven't gone back to post 227 and read all the succeeding replies, I am really interested in reconstruction/reviving this add-on.

So, I'm wondering, since I'm a programmer/developer myself, though not well versed in FireFox's source code; is there any code around that I could use as a starting point, and are there any design documents that describe the architecture of the add-on (even scribbles).

I am really keen to make this happen as I'm totally lost without them, so much so that I hibernate my computer rather than shutdown simply because I don't want to loose my browser tabs etc.

Regards,
Nap

ATN: Session Manager 0.8.1.14

That said, no clue, though I'd think not, that the XUL extension would be of much value for use in "converting" it to a "webextension".

(You do notice how there is a relative dearth [or did I mean, death] of meaningful webextensions/webextension developers out there.)
Fire 750, bring back 250.

nap_blownapart,

It is not exactly clear what your "needs" are but have you tried "Tab Session Manager" by sienori, available at the Firefox add-ons site, " https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... n-manager/ ". Sienori said that he was inspired by the "Session Manager by Michael Kraft." I have Tab Session Manager installed on several browsers, but have not had the occasion to really make much use of it. But it does seem to work.

Thanks for your comment!

I am using that one (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... ent=search) , but it does not do what i need.
There is no way to name sessions and retain them in a list for future use. So, whilst I have lots of backups, I have no idea what is in each one, and I frequently lose collections of pages as a result.

I also need a FireTab equivalent, because when I have multiple windows open, Firefox uses the name of the current tab as the name associated with the toolbar icon. This means that as the focused tab changes, so does the name of the icon. Thus, I have to cycle through all the windows and check whether the tab I want is in the list of open tabs (of which I regularly have 50+ per window) to find the one I want.

Cheers!
I have seen it, but unfortunately it doesn't work with WebExtensions, as you pointed out.

nap_blownapart,

Since I "have not had the occasion to really make much use of it," I cannot say that I have explored all of the features of Tab Session Manager.

Have you gone to the discussions at " https://github.com/sienori/Tab-Session- ... iscussions " and posted there for your needs --- and also in the issues at " https://github.com/sienori/Tab-Session-Manager/issues "?

In the discussions there do seem to be some promising posts that might apply to you, in particular: " https://github.com/sienori/Tab-Session- ... ssions/938 ", " https://github.com/sienori/Tab-Session- ... ssions/996 ", and " https://github.com/sienori/Tab-Session- ... sions/1053 ".
