because you could miss some other great names.. Hello,
My suggestion is Autark - a derivative of the word autarkic or autarchic. Autarkic means self ruling, independent, free. I think all of these correspond to the qualities of Mozilla based projects. Autarkic comes from Autarky; more info on Autarky at Merriam Webster: http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?b ... va=autarky I checked the United States Patent and Trademark Office website, and there is no trademark for this name ( Autark ) , probably since it is a derivative of an existing, unusual word. http://www.uspto.gov I feel the name evokes a spare, simple, sovereign, yet stark being - an independent, free, unconstrained yet unvarnished existence. Tell me what you think. Regards, - Jay
I don't like it. The name doesn't sound cool at all, regardless of what it actually means. Guerilla

I'm tired, so this is all I could remember (and then pulled out of a book I have):
Pyrallis, Pyragones, or Pyrausta --they're all the same (and they start with P! Heh...) "This remarkable animal, no bigger than a large fly, resembled a four-legged insect, with a burnished bronze body and golden filigree wings--but its head was that of a dragon." "It was associated exclusively with the copper smelting forges and roundries of Cyrpus, in which swarms of the creatures were reported to dance and cavort like incandescent will-o'-the-wisps. Yet if one of these animate sparks should fly out of the flames, even for the briefest of instants, it would die at once--because the pyrallis drew not merely its sustanence, but also its very life force from the furnace's curning heat and raging vitality. Truly a beast of the fire and the flame!" Not all that profound, but it does sort of keep with the Phoenix theme...
Well, one of the forum posters own this company with just that name http://www.autark.se/ The world does not consist of US alone. Last edited by Stefan on November 7th, 2002, 11:12 am, edited 1 time in total.
I think the name Phoenix suites the project and the browser. So, there isn't really a need to change it to some 12 legged creature name or whatever

Well, we could follow the OS X scheme and call it:
iBrowse ![]() but looking through some lizard names the following stand out: From English names: Skink (small, but sounds kinda slimey) Nobbi (funny!) Goanna (Sounds cool, but might be difficult to pronounce) From the latin section: Carlia (abstract, and sounds nice) Delma (describes legless lizards, which leads to drunk jokes!) Menetia (just sounds cool) My vote would be for Carlia - cool, friendly, and .org and .net are available. Who is onlineUsers browsing this forum: No registered users and 0 guests |
