Speed up Acrobat 6

Post by alanjstr »

http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=11041

Find the plug_ins folder and rename it plug_ins_disabled
Create a new folder named plug_ins
Copy the following files from "plug_ins_disabled" to "plug_ins": EWH32.api, printme.api, and search.api

That's awesome. Acrobat is so damn slow.

Why the heck do those idiots have the software load the unused plugins on startup. It should only be on demand.

That's awesome, a 20X improvement even on my P4 2.4G laptop.

Using 5.1, and the structure is similar - I might try the same tricks, or at least just rip out the bits I know I won't use - like web-buy.

And given what people say about V6 - I think I'll turn off auto - update (and/or firewall block it - since I always download PDF to view offline)

The best speedup I found, and I wrote about it in the General forum, is to disable "Display in Web Browser" in Acrobat. This forces pdf files to open in Acrobat. No plugin needed.

Interesting... next time I install Windows I'll play around and add it to the docs.

Doesn't seem slow enough for me to bother.

Is your machine powered by an alien CPU :?:

Acrobat 6 reader sucks big time on my P4 2.4G without this trick..

I think Adobe accidentally released the alpha version of Adobe Reader 6 or something. I had to uninstall, redownload, and install it again because it kept crashing at startup.

Anybody know where I can get archived versions?
