3 screenshots in one
1. .tab-text { font-family:'Lucida Grande', 'ヒラギノ丸ゴ Pro W4' !important;}
2. .tab-text { font: small-caption !important; font-weight: normal !important; }
3. .tab-text { font:icon !important}
Notice how the Japanese text is smashed and pixelated in [2] and [3].
In [1], my prefered font-choice, I force the default cascade built in by the OS.
Due to font-smoothing, the contrast is less high, especially in the first tab, and more so on a Powerbook. Note: I've installed this theme on my desktop Mac as well, where the contrast problem is much less (23inch Apple monitor).
The expander arrow, looks more like the OS made one.
.
[edit] Almost forgot. The above screenshots are made with your background image.
A better result on my side (Powerbook 15inch) is this. I made the darkgrey 10% lighter (use #999999 instead of #808080, if that is too light #8C8C8C gives good results as well).

Hi,
a new Deer Park test version - 1.2.9.1
http://www.grapple.net.tf/ - only for user of Deer Park nightlies
contains:
- changes in the download, extensions and theme manager
- a new feedview style
- some new icons
@phiw13
- the toolbar and tabbar is a little clearer now
- the bookmark- and tabfont is a little darker
should fix your problem, or?
the expander arrow, is still a problem - but the pictures are neutral with the system appearance, therefore is it the best compromise currently.

OK, the color(s) of the tab bar background looks good now.
But I have a problem:
The tabs don't paint correctly, the favicon is missing for non-active tabs. Possibly something more in bug 281974.
Or a new painting bug ? I think the default theme works correctly.
Running the latest trunk build.
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20050823 Firefox/1.6a1 ID:2005082307
(I bumped up the max version manually ).

Ok, I'll report back on the other issues after installing and testing.
it is easy - the new themes will be FF 1.5 only (too many changes and Deer Park only features)
just integrating the new download, extensions and theme manager code complete from the default - That takes only 2 minutes - the download manager is anyhow different - it use a native prozess display now
a opinion about the feedview style would be nice - still a work in progress

Probably, and one that was introduced in the last 24 hours. Yesterdays build had no problem with your theme (@version 1.2.9). Both 1.2.9 1 and 1.2.9.1 have the same problems.
Gonna have a look at the latest check ins, and see what's up.
Cheers.

I downloaded elfurbe's community build, and the problem has disappeared, I think.
Probably caused by bug 305632.
