Since I didn't get much of a chance to ask my question in the last thread, I'll just repost it below.

I've been wondering what effect app.update.channel has? When I was using nightly builds this was set to nightly, with a pacifica build it's set to beta. Are there other settings and will one setting lead to more updates being found, or does check for updates/autoupdate only find nightly builds? It sounds like from Chase's comments here: http://weblogs.mozillazine.org/chase/ar ... 08775.html that changing the setting in about:config doesn't really do anything, but I'm still wondering what the effect the different channels have on updating to the most recent build for testing.

WCarloss -

To follow up with your thought ... as it is installed by default, does FF 1.5 Beta 1 grab the
latest nightly builds with update mgr?

I've tried an update mgr "check for updates" this morning (9:00am PDT) and
no updates have been detected so far. I'm running build 2005090806 at the moment.

The updater didn't find the latest build for me, but this might be because I was using a Pacifica build which was looking for "beta" builds instead of "nightly" builds. I just updated using the full installer.

I updated about 30 minutes ago from 090806 to 090906. (the diff file)
very short & painless today.
I assume it was the branch nightly since that's what I've been using.

OK - so must be something updated in user:config because the release Beta 1 install does
not automatically pick up anything from servers yet since build 20050806.

What setting do you use for app.update.channel and app.update.url?

app.update.url = https://aus2.mozilla.org/update/1/%PRODUCT%/ %VERSION%/%BUILD_ID%/%BUILD_TARGET%/%LOCALE%/ %CHANNEL%/update.xml
Product = Firefox; Version = 1.4; BuildID = current requesting build = 2005090806;
Build_Target = Today's date ? = 2005090906;
locale = en-us; channel = nightly;

app.update.channel = nightly

Go to:

http://communiques.gouv.qc.ca/gouvqc/co ... c5121.html

Anyone see a big line saying ------------STORY----------- at the top of the page? It should be a comment, and it doesn't show on Opera or IE, but it shows in my Firefox.

Any idea why? I'm looking at the source and it looks pretty standard. Else I'll fill in a bug.

Mine said update/0 instead of update/1. I reset the address so I'll see if I get updates later because my update channel is still set to beta.

Interesting - when I copy the page source into NVu web authoring and then simply save the file
as test.html ... FF renders the page fine with no display of the "STORY" line.

I did see in NVu though that the HTML Validator came back with quite a few source errors for the page
so perhaps there is CSS or HTML issues?

Don't really know. Also if you look at the source, the body tag is displayed as comment when it clearly isnt.
