Problem importing from Outlook

Post by mblanding3 »

I'm trying to import my mail from Outlook, but Thunderbird isn't letting me. It gives me this error message: "Cannot find any mail to import. Check to ensure that the mail application is installed correctly on this machine." When I open up Outlook I can see my mail fine, and I have set Outlook as my default email client. Any idea what I need to do to correct this?

Importing from Outlook always seems to be a pain. If I were you, I would export the email into Outlook Express and then import into Thunderbird from OE.

Is Outlook Express a different program or part of Outlook? Does it come standard with Microsoft Office? I'm not too familiar with Outlook. (In fact, I imported my email into Outlook from my last email program, Earthlink Mailbox just in order to transfer it to Thunderbird...)

It comes with Internet Explorer. It is the email/newsreader program.

It's a different program. Outlook includes the calendar, where OE is just the e-mail/news program

Although you've already solved the problem, I want write what can be the problem, that I had some days ago when I've installed TB 1.0.6 on all pc's of company: if after installing TB you set it as default mail program, the file mapi32.dll in %System32Dir% will be overwritten with another in version 1.0.
The original will be renamed mapi32_moz_bak.dll
This cause Outlook error ordinal 36 when started, and cause also the impossibility for TB to find the pst file.

Please start a new thread. Your issue has nothing to do with the other issue. Thanks.
