Profile in Use - Parent Lock

Post by Guest »

I cannot go on the Firefox with the default user settings, so I tried looking in the jhe1eeay.default folder (as I've read somewhere else), found the parent.lock file, and tried deleting it. However, I can't delete it, and this is the message I get:
Cannot delete parent: The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Is is a exact quote?
Cannot delete parent: The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.

Then you have misstyped the filename. Otherwise try an error check of the disk.

Yes, that is an exact quote. What do you mean when you said I might have mistyped the filename?

Also, how do I perform a disk check?

And if it helps in any way, I have Firefox version 1.0.4.

First, the file is named "parent.lock". You have that correctly stated in your original post. There should be no problem to delete this file if FF is not running. Check the task manager (process tab).
Second, a disk check is done as follows:
Open an explorer window. Select the drive C: (i assume you installed windows on the C drive). Right click on the c drive icon, select "Properties -> Extras (or Advanced) -> Check drive for errors -> Check now"
Your drive is now checked for errors.
Think for yourself. Otherwise you have to believe what other people tell you.

It wouldn't let me delete the file because it was corrupted (and I did check the task manager to make sure FF was completely closed).

But I shut down my computer and then started it back up, and it automatically ran the chkdsk and fixed the parent.lock file.

Thanks for your help!
