Is anyone who has used 1.5 RC1 / RC2 / RC3 having stalling issues with Firefox? I been using 1.07 for months and recently upgraded to 1.5, when I saw RC1 was out. But since then, it's been a very frustrating experience because the browser stalls whenever it's loading pages. Especially when loading a page in a tab.
i.e. I may be a reading slashdot, I right click on a link and select "Open Link in New Tab". It begins to load the webpage in the background new tab. I continue reading, find something else I want to read, right click "Open Link in New Tab", at which point the whole browser freezes up. The right-click menu is still visible and the browser sits there frozen for about 10 seconds, before it unlocks and becomes responsive again. I never had issues like this with Firefox 1.0x. Is anyone having the same problem with 1.5?

I have only had this problem when opening PDF documents, as adobe takes awhile to load.

This isn't when loading PDF documents, just regular web pages. Usually I would go through a page, opening links that look interesting into new tabs in the background. So when firefox freezes up, it prevents me from scrolling further on the main page I was reading.

I have recently updated to 1.5 RC3 and I notice something similar. Cpu usage climbs to 100% whenever I move the window or resize or anything similar like that. I run windows xp sp2 with 1GB of ram and an athlon xp 3200 on an nforce2, and I've never seen this issue before. I didn't notice it in RC2 which I've used for a few weeks now, but I notice it on the second day of use of RC3.

safe mode doesn't help my issue

I apologize.... for me it was an incompatibility with a hacked display driver that only showed up in Firefox... I went back to standard ati catalyst and it works fine.

I get that also. When loading new tabs, and especially when loading 9 or 10 links at once, firefox cpu usage climbs to 99% for about a minute. Anyone with any suggestions? This did not happen in 1.0.*
Does this coincide with the numerous script freezing errors that are occurring on my machine? or is this a completelyy unrelated issue?

Safe mode does not fix this issue for me. Makes sense, since all safe mode does is disable extensions, none of which I have installed. I just use the basic installation of firefox as is.

When I installed RC1, I was very impressed with its speed. Then, RC2 seemed a little slower, but I thought Maybe it was my imagination. Then, with RC3, it was definitly slower, and would sometimes just hang part of the way through loading a page until I would hit reload. I restored to RC2, and it runs OK again.

KirinTor - How about a few more specifics, e.g. what platform Windows, Mac, Linux or BSDs?
Next what else do you observe? For example, on each session I run I have a small utility that shows graphically and percentage: CPU usage, procs and user numbers, disc usage (that's very high at the moment) and network traffic. See any anomalies? Regarding RC-3 I am seeing less than I had of locking, but I have noticed a variety of sites I frequent have had problems loading, recently. Manytimes a quick kill followed by a reload results in a rapid loading of a page. Another question too is what sort of band width do you think you have access to when you see these problems? Manytimes shared load by other users may slow your response. While I still retain a copy of Firefox 1.0.7, once I began using the test versions beginning with Alpha 2 my usage of the stable version decreased rapidly, so much so that at the transition from Alpha 2 to Beta 1 nearly all my use was already confined to the test versions, with the "stable" branch being present to confirm problems I encountered. Moreover, my experience has been almost uniformly better on the test versions, however, most of the time browser speed is not my personal paramount concern. Same/similar issue as KirinTor and like txtedmacs I'm getting problems loading.Firefox is by far my favourite browser (I was an early adopter) and this is the first time I have got really hacked off with it.
I'm using XP home (fully updated) and crt-alt-del (to get the cpu figures) won't work. The only thing that gets me out of the problem is rebooting. I have also tried safe mode a couple of times but as the issue is of an intermittent nature, there's no guarantee that it's indicative. ffuser17: I had the same problem with high CPU on with 1.0.7 .

I meant to add something else. The first few times I closed down this version of Firefox, it crashed.

We may not have to wait long for a solution. According to <a href="http://www.zdnetasia.com/news/internet/0,39044246,39292422,00.htm">this article</a> <i>"the next major version...will be released on 29 November".</i>
Let's hope the issues aired here will be addressed.

i decided to start a new firefox profile, reinstall all of my extensions, and then drastically reduce my adblock block list. my firefox no longer has the problems it had before, and everything is moving fairly quickly. adblock slows the browser down as a whole, so using keywords may help to reduce the list size and speed up firefox. but the new profile seems to have gotten rid of memory issues. it may have been that you cannot use your 1.0.* profile with 1.5
