iPox for Firefox 2.0 Discussion <a href="http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=2584734#2584734">starts here</a>.

----------------
-- Way Old Info --

I've started work on my first theme called <a href="http://www.twistermc.com/shake/iPox.php">iPox</a>. I'm very new to theming Firefox and I'm learning as I go.

I found out that my menu doesn't show up on Windows. Now I have no idea what Windows users see, what elements I need to fix or a PC to test it at the moment.

If anyone is on a PC and knows about theming, feel free to check it out and let me know what I need to fix. Or just point me in the general direction would help.

Any comments, suggestions or feedback is welcome too. :)

Some of the other Firefox themers on Aqua-Soft will be really interested in this.

New <a href="http://www.twistermc.com/shake/iPox.php">Version 0.1a</a> fixes issues with missing Windows menu bar. Yea!!!!

Granted it still has visual menu issues on Windows, but it's usable.

Any tips on what to edit to get menu rollover backgrounds or the top and bottoms of bookmark bar menus to be styled? Seems to work ok on my Mac.

well, for the menu rollover backgrounds, i recently wrote a mod for the ported flock theme that adds menu backgrounds, and they work in windows (considering that i wrote it on my machine, which is windows). here's the code i used, you have permission to modify it for your own use ;):

it adds a background to the menus (including the context menu) and a neat gradient on the side

steps to try out this mod:

1. download the following file and save it in your chrome folder in your profile folder:

2. paste this into your userChrome.css:

/* add menu background */
/* (code by DesertFox) */

#menubar-items menu menupopup,
menu menupopup,
#PersonalToolbar menupopup,
#manager-menubar menupopup,
#foxytunes-main-menu-statusbar menupopup,
window .popup-internal-box {
background-color: rgb(237, 237, 239) !important;
background-image: url("menu-background.png") !important;
background-repeat: repeat-y !important;
background-position: -3px 0px !important;
}

/* adjust menu padding and margins */
/* (code by crayola_kidd, thanks) */
.menu-text,
.menu-iconic-left,
.menu-iconic-text {
margin: 0px 2px 0px 0px !important;
}

.menu-iconic-text {
margin-left: 4px !important;
}

.menu-text {
margin-left: 22px !important;
}

.menu-accel,
.menu-iconic-accel {
margin: 0px 2px 0px 7px !important;
padding-right: 14px !important;
}

.menu-iconic-left {
width: 16px !important;
margin-left: 0px !important;
}

I like the theme twister, especially the background on the bookmarks toolbar. very neat, and original...my only concern though is a few people don't really use the bookmarks toolbar, and that background and style is way too beautiful to go hidden. I suggest that perhaps you offer two versions of the theme -- one version that includes that slick, web 2.0ish, background of the bookmarks toolbar as the background of the navigation toolbar as well.

also, for windows, i'd suggest just adding a little bit more spacing between the items in the menu, and you have yourself a winner. i really like this theme!

Please know that http://sfx-images.mozilla.org/affiliate ... _80x15.png is only 80 pixels wide. You may want to edit your HTML accordingly.

desertfox - Thanks for the tips. I'll see what I can do.

deltoids - I'll have to keep that in mind.

Mithgol - What are you referring to? My website?

Metalstream - I haven't found out how to fix that yet. Not sure where to edit those menu elements yet. And and oval URL bar sounds cool. I'll look into it.

:)

I think something's up with the toolbar background; If I use large icons, it looks like this in Windows XP:

Image

Also, you can see some stray shading above the greyed-out buttons (ex. Back, Forward), and cut-off shading to the right of the active buttons (ex. Reload).

Large Reload's arrows aren't quite as centered as in the small version... I think they could use a nudge up and left (and maybe some sharpening, but nevermind that).

Looking forward to future versions :)

i installed iPox 0.1a
looking good.
i love the tabbar, best of any theme i've seen!

i noticed that if i added the following code to the sample code i offered above, it made the background color and image on the menus show up correctly:

Code: Select all
menuitem,
menupopup menu,
window .popup-internal-box menuitem,
window .popup-internal-box menu {
  background-color: transparent !important;
  background-image: none !important;
}

Thanks for the help all.

MechR - I know it doesn't look good with large icons. Haven't gotten to that issue yet. :)

*Whistles* Snazzy looking theme. I've been waiting for one like this for a very long time. I especially love the tab bar/tabs. I won't lie to you though, it needs alot of work. It's quite glitchy, and alot of the buttons don't look as good as they could. But it shows definite promise.

Once you have this theme finished i'm going to have a tough time deciding between this one, and the Flock firefox theme. They are both so cool. =)

Question Time. :)

1) How to I change the status bar background on a Mac? I got it to work on PC, but not Mac.
2) What (or where) is the element for the 'download completed' pop-up window on PCs?
3) Where can I change the selected color? Example, go into themes and select a theme. It's dark dark blue on the PC I'm testing with. Vary hard to see any text.

Thanks
