undo new tabbed browsing behavior

Post by ColdFusion650 »

is there a way to undo the close buttons on tabs? i like having just the one close button on the right. i've tried to reverse the patch, but it does much other stuff its hard to pinpoint which parts i need to reverse. it was easy to remove the close buttons on the tabs, but i can't put the old close button back. does anybody know of a way?

It can be done with TabMixPlus 0.3, but I'm guessing you're looking for a UserChrome.css entry right?

well, yes, if its possible to do it that way. maybe i can isolate the specific component of tab mix plus and come up with something.

well, after a quick look through tabmix plus, it uses 1 line of javascript to add back the button, which i have successfully duplicated. however, because it is javascript, it has to be an extension, which i hope to release as tabx backwards. because tabx adds the buttons on tabs, and this extension takes them away.

What was the first build the change is in? I'm on "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20060120 Firefox/1.6a1 ID:2006012005" and i do not see changes. Maybe due to custom theme.

Thanks. Is this going to "standard" trunk builds?

howdy trolly,

sure looks that way. the test builds were to see if it worked at all and if there were any really horrid fubar items. now the hew tab interface is for real and for ever on the trunk. after it percolates for a while = two or three weeks is the estimate - it will be added to the 1.8.1/2.0 branch, apparently.

lookee ...

These ideas were being considered for Firefox 1.5, but were eventually decided to be too major a change to take late in the cycle. We're quite keen on improving tabbed browsing for Firefox 2

take care,

well, I don't like this at all. there should be a (perhaps hidden) pref for just one close button at the right. but I guess it won't happen, the devs already made up their mind on this...
