emoticons - how to insert in message?

Post by dackerma »

I'm using Thunderbird 1.5 and would sometimes like to insert an emoticon. Is that possible? If so, how? Thanks.

Hi dackerma,

wow, you've selected a thread that's over a year old, how did you accomplish that? ;-)
Your question though would be better placed in the Mozilla Thunderbird support forum!

Still, in the compose window you should notice the right-most icon in the toolbar below the subject line, which is a drop-down for emoticons
Keep in mind, that you could get difficulties with plain text mails

emoticons in Thunderbird

Post by dackerma »

I'll ask the same question anywhere it might be answered. When I compose emails in Thunderbird, there is no icon for emoticons above the message window. Is this an add-in that I should download from somewhere? Thanks.

No need to crosspost!

No extension needed.
Do you have the formatting toolbar displayed? Otherwise it can be found under View --> Toolbars
I often have to resize the compose window, so all icons on the toolbar are displayed.

I have used that icon to insert emoticons into html messages (1.5.0.2). However, when I look at the message received, the message does not contain an image, but more like :)-D ...

Also, can icons I have on a file on my system be added to that list?
