How do I access "Duplicate Tab" settings..?

Post by viking2ev_2 »

I installed "Duplicate Tab" and have the Tab menu commands for it. However, I can not figure out how to access the settings (there is nothing in the Tab menu or in the Tools menu)

You must go to the Duplicate Tab entry in the extensions manager (Tools -> Extensions) to access the options. The options for most extensions are only accessible this way. That's the way Firefox is designed.

middle-clicking back/forward buttons (not drop-down menu)

Post by Grick »

Middle-clicking the regular back button or forward button (e.g., not the drop-down menu, just the arrow) should also (optionally) clone the tab history.

Thanks.

You're lucky: latest version (0.7.3) allows you to do that.

Not working

Post by micksta »

This extension is just what I've beeen after. But I've just installed 0.7.3 and it doesn't seem to be working for me. It'll duplicate to a new window perfectly (complete with history and everything), but when I try to duplicate to a new tab, I just get a blank tab.

my config is below. I've tried disabling some of the extensions I thought might be interferring, without luck. I also uninstalled tab_history-1.0.3 and newtaburl-1.0 in order to install DuplicateTab. But did all the necessary restarts of firefox in between.

Any ideas???

Cookie status 0.2 seems to be the extension causing the problem. When I have installed that extension duplicating a tab will result in a blank tab. Does disabling Cookie status make Duplicate Tab work for you?

You can fix this problem by removing the following text from the Cookie status javascript file Bidouille.js at line 74:

Code: Select all

 if e.result == Components.results.NS_ERROR_FAILURE

You can find Bidouille.js at <profile folder>\extensions\{807ef1af-d674-45e2-8951-1cf143866eee}\chrome\content, just use a text editor to edit the file

Thanks for your help twanno. You are right - disabling cookie status 0.2 fixes the problem!

I'm running Duplicate Tabs along with Reveal. When I duplicate a tab the back-button history doesn't contain thumbnails of the pages. It shows a magenta box instead. My gut tells me that this isn't a bug in either extension, just an artifact of how they work. That said, it would be nice if they could be made complementary instead of orthoganal.

Hi mjcarman,

Take a look at this test version of Duplicate Tab, it should also duplicate the thumbnails of the tabs history when duplicating a tab.
Can you try it out and report back with any problems you encounter?

Hi twanno,
Thanks for the alpha version. I only noticed a couple of problems:<ul>
<li>Duplicating a tab doesn't pick up the forward history. (This doesn't bother me, but if your intent is to duplicate a tab <i>completely</i> you'll want to change that.)</li>
<li>When I open a link in a duplicate tab (I set the middle-click option) the first item in the new tab's history doesn't get a proper thumbnail.</li>
</ul>Other than that it seems to work well. Are the changes specific to Reveal or would it work with any of the extensions that do thumbnails?

This works for me, have you enabled Forward History Cloning in the advanced options section? Or can you provide steps (sites to visit, maybe) to reproduce? Are there any errors in the JavaScript Console (Tools -> JavaScript Console) concerning Duplicate Tab?

When I open a link in a duplicate tab (I set the middle-click option) the first item in the new tab's history doesn't get a proper thumbnail.

Thanks, I didn't think of testing that yet, I'll fix that.

Other than that it seems to work well. Are the changes specific to Reveal or would it work with any of the extensions that do thumbnails?

It most likely only works with Reveal, because I presume other extension authors use different methods to store the thumbnails. There is no predefined way to link thumbnails to the tab (or its history).
And besides that, what other extensions provide thumbnails for the tabs history?

Thanks for testing,
Twanno

Ack! My bad. I have Forward History Cloning disabled.

That's what I expected. I took another look at the myriad of extensions that create thumbnails of tabs. From what I can see, Reveal is the only one that keeps thumbnails of history.
