Shockwave Plugin error???
It randomly tells me I have a shockwave plugin error and "strongly" advises me to restart my navigator. Then it crashes. Should I download the newest shockwave? or is it something else?
thanks

If you are receiving an error similar to:
----------------------------------------
Illegal Operation In Plug-In
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
? Shockwave Flash
The plug-in performed an illegal operation. You are strongly advised to restart Firefox.
( ) Don't show this message again during this session.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
...then a number of people have been posting about this Macromedia Flash problem.
If you have the Mozilla ActiveX plugin npmozax.dll in your Program Files\ Mozilla Firefox\ plugins folder, remove it as a first step. See if you find anything else helpful here, and please post back if you find a fix!

Check through the links posted above. It might also help posting the EXACT error message and a link to a problem site.
If all else fails, you could uninstall Flash 8. Remove any leftover flash files in your Mozilla Firefox plugins folder (NPSWF32.dll GetFlash.exe GetFlash.exe.manifest) and components folder (flashplayer.xpt). Then download and install the updated version of Flash 7, available here (use the download for Netscape):

This has worked for other users who reported a Shockwave Flash "illegal operation in Plug-in" error with Flash 8. See:

I know this is very annoying problem and i just found a work around for it. You have two option:
1. unistall vlc media player
a. reinstall vlc player
b. under plugins don't check the mozzila plugin
c. this will disable the use of vlc with fire fox browser, but your windows media player should play the files
2. unistall vlc media player
a. check the box for mozzial plugin
b. this will allow the use of vlc with fire fox, (ie. will work like it used before this stupid problem started occuring)
c. This is the option i've went with. the only issue i have is that my .OMG video files i have to choose "open with..." then choose your vlc player and they will work.
My only question is why does the plugin work now after i reinstalled and not before, what was the big problem?

I knew that the VLC Media Player plugin can conflict with the Windows Media Player plugin or cause Firefox to crash. It's interesting that the VLC Media Player plugin might also cause a Shockwave Flash plugin conflict. It wouldn't hurt to temporarily remove npvlc.dll from the Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins folder .... or rename it, e.g. Xnpvlc.dll ... as a troubleshooting method.

llegal Operation In Plug-In...
maybe it helps...
for Windows XP users, just try this: right-click on the firefox icon, select properties, and select to run the program in compatibility mode: Windows NT 4.0. Then remove files (NPSWF32.dll GetFlash.exe GetFlash.exe.manifest) and components folder (flashplayer.xpt). Restart firefox.
Worked good for me so far...

I, too, had the illegal operation problem and it looks I've found the cause: SPYWARE. To be more specific, I believe it was a case of Trojan.Downloader.Agent-262.
I made the discovery after deciding to reinstall Firefox from scratch. To do that, I needed to use Internet Explorer, which, as it turned out, was redirecting all my Google searches. My antivirus (Avast) didn't find anything, and neither did Spybot or Adaware. Hijackthis indicated that something was amiss, but Google, while not naming the culprit, did provide a solution.
It was a program called fixwareout. which Used a generated script and a scripting program allowing the deletion of hidden files, and I don't mean hidden with the hidden attribute set. Fixwareout also made the .exe files visible, after which Avast was able to indentify one of them as being infected by Trojan.Downloader.Agent-262. The other was negative for viruses.
I've been testing a fresh install of FF for about an hour now without any sign of the dreaded error dialog.

mozilla shockwave error
goto start button -> run type in msinfo32 goto software environment startup programs. If you have a file at the end of the list that starts with dm you have to figure out how to clean this file out this is a worm that is causing the flash error. i had to reboot several times to get it to actually show up in my hklm/soft/microsoft/windows/run tab
