HELP! How do I know which plugins I need?

Post by maima »

On my new intel mac I keep trying to open websites that tell me I'm missing plugins, but I don't know which ones. When I follow directions to try to download plugins, I just get a list of potential plugins, but no indication of which I need. I have to use my explorer and safari browsers to get full content of some pages. Why? How do I find out what plugins I'm missing? Why don't I need them with explorer and safari -- or why do I apparently already have them for those browsers and still need them for Firefox? This is very confusing!

There are a few standard plugins: http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/OSX.html
(Flash, Shockwave,Quicktime,Real Player,WMP)
To see which plugins you have you can type in the url/location bar:
about:plugins <enter>

If you provide a link(s) to one or more sites then we can check which plugins are used.
