Can anyone help me with instructions on setting up T-Bird as an autosrespnder.
I want to send out information sheets as a result from an enquiry. Outlook as a filter system that allows this and I wondered if Thunderbird could do the same.

How to set-up an Out_Of_Office auto reply (you must have Thunderbird version 1.5 +). Compose an Out_Of_Office Template (the eMail that you are going to send to tell everyone you are Out of the Office). Fill in the Subject line with something appropriate like Out_Of_Office. Save this eMail as a Template. From the main menu -> File -> Save as -> Template More Info on --> Message templates Now that your Template is complete. From the Thunderbird main menu -> Tools -> Message Filters -> Filters for: [select the account] -> [New] -> Filter name: [Out of Office] -> [To] -> [is] -> [Your eMail Address] -> [Reply with Template] -> [Select Template] -> [OK] *** Caution *** Do not send yourself an eMail to test this, it will cause a loop (using the same eMail address). When you send the eMail to yourself, you will auto answer to yourself, then that eMail will be auto answered, etc. Send a test eMail to the eMail address you entered in the [Your eMail Address] field from some other eMail account. Wait 1 minute for the server to send you your mail. When you get the eMail, check your [Sent] eMail folder and you will see that your Template was sent. Wait 1 minute for the server to send you your mail. Check your [InBox] and you will see your template has been sent to you. To turn this feature off and on from the main menu -> Tools -> Message Filters -> [x] check or un-check the box next to you Filter. It is possible to filter who gets and does not get the Out_of _Office reply. This --> Link HERE may help also, it is a 2 page link, so click "NEXT" at the bottom of the first Page. You must leave your computer running with Thunderbird open. Remember you can also do this with most ISP's (Internet Service Provider) and you not have to leave your computer on. Thanks for that info;
Is there away of sending different responses that are triggered by a word or phrase? If one sends an email asking for further information on 'blue widgets'; a template relating to 'blue widgets' would automatically respond?

To some extent, it's implicit in the instructions above. Since you are sending the away message by using a filter you can test for the "From" value and use a different "Reply with template" based on the results. You can only use the test parameters in the drop down list.

Yes, you do. Did you look under Tools->Message Filters->New Filter (or Edit) and look under the pull down below "Perform these actions"?

Hi. I just tried this and while it was easy to set up, the auto reply includes a bunch of funky code. I even had my husband test it and he got the same thing. How do I get rid of it? Oh, I'm not a techie type.

You've just reopened a one year old topic. Please start a new one so there will be no confusion with the old information, and provide the following information:
Which version of Thunderbird? Check Help->About for the version number Do you have any extensions installed? If yes, which ones? What kind of email service - POP, IMAP? Is your email service from an ISP, corporate e-mail system or Web-based? Are you using an antivirus and/or a firewall program? Which ones? Can you describe the problem you are experiencing, in detail, and specifically the FULL text of any error message and/or the exact "funky code" that you are seeing? Hi, I have set all this up and it worked once upon a time. Now I am doing exactly the same thing and when I send myself a test message from a different email account I get an error:
Sending of Message failed: Check your Mail and Newsgroup settings and try again Can anyone please help me sort this out?
