No Block Sites Option? Why not?

I've looked everywhere but I can't find an option that will allow me to block sites. I thought this would be a very basic feature. :S

Mainly because blocking sites via the browser is easy to defeat.

You can also look into HOSTS or Proxy Auto Config files, but again these are easy to defeat.

Two ways to do this ....

1st way: Firefox Security Policies, Host File or PAC File ........

• Mozilla/FireFox security policies (which is similar to zones in IE).

  ... is a extension for managing Site Policies, a security feature, (like IE's "security zones"). This package includes manager GUI and a context menu extension to set the site's policy easily.

2nd way: use a extension .....................

• Rip - http://rip.mozdev.org/
  ... (Remove it Permanently) provides the ability to point at and remove permanently any item you can select. It provide a flexible and easily configurable solution to removing unwanted content from a web page. If it is just image based ad's removal you are looking for I suggest you use the rather excellent (Ad Block) extension and download a good list of regular expression for this extension (Filterset.G). ..... If on the other hand you want the power to choose what content you want removed, be it unwanted forms, text based ads or just areas of a page (or website) you don't want to see anymore, RIP is for you.

  ... scans the actual HTML document for tell-tale words and phrases. If it finds these words it disables all images and hyperlinks on the page. This design in some cases causes pictures or links to be available for a couple seconds before they are disabled. This is obviously undesirable, however the option to move to a blacklist system is even more undesirable.

  ... ever been annoyed by all those ads and banners on the internet that often take longer to download than everything else on the page? Install Adblock Plus now and get rid of them. Right-click on a banner and choose "Adblock" from the context menu - the banner won't be downloaded again. Or open Adblock Plus sidebar to see all elements of the page and block the banners. You can use filters with wildcards or even regular expressions to block complete banner factories.

Policy Manager is a extension for managing Site Policies,

I haven't been able to get this to install (installation is blocked, and I haven't been able to figure out what to change in the options to unblock it). Does it not work with Firefox 1.5.0.*? I couldn't find anything on the author's site that says what Firefox versions it's for.

in filter type xpi. double click xpiinstall.enabled to mak eit false, true( the opposite of what it is now)

xpinstall.enabled should be true.
You have to save the extension and install locally or add the site to the allowed sites list.
(Tools > Options > Content : "Block Popups": Allowed Sites)

Local install:
Right-click the .xpi link and choose "Save Link as.." to save the file to your harddisk (e.g. My Documents or Desktop) and then drag the file into a Firefox or Extensions Manager window or use File > Open File to install.

I just want to block this mf website (www.brothersoft.com) from appearing in my google search. Is there a way out? This stupid a.h'lic site has nothing useful to offer and wastes my time.... Hats off to those who can give a permanent solution..
