Embedded streaming video??

Post by kryptonite »

Anyone else having a problem with embedded streaming video and WMP in 3.0a1?
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20060721 Minefield/3.0a1 ID:2006072104 [cairo]

I click the link to start playing it and it's just a black screen.

Same problem

Post by reeper »

I am having the exact same problem. There is a thread that is related but not dead on regarding this problem:
http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=297172
This thread describes a specific type of error that people get relating to the windows media plugin. I get no such error, just blank screen and no player, embedded or external.

That thread talks about error messages, of which i'm getting none. Needless to say, the video server is down (it's similar to MLB.tv) for maintenance. Hopefully they're aware of the issue.

The links under "video highlights" aren't password protected. The links under "350K" are. Same issue with both links.

They're most likely using ActiveX or IE specific stuff for that. Doesn't work under Trunk or Release.

It worked for a while under 3.0a1, but now it doesn't. Hmm... As of ~ 2 1/2 to 4 weeks ago, it stopped.

And yeah, it must be a trunk thing. My buddy with 1.5.0.4 says he can get it fine.

Does he have the Mozilla ActiveX plugin installed? That would be why..

Those links in http://www.mlsnet.com/MLS/sights/ open fine for me. I have VLC-plugin installed. There is a "External Protocol Request" warning first and then video opens in WMP 11 beta without problems.

Works for me in Bon Echo same way as in Minefield.
My plugins (see my last message) are made common for all Gecko browsers as described in http://gemal.dk/mozilla/plugins.html

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1b1) Gecko/20060721 BonEcho/2.0b1 - Build ID: 2006072114

Hmm that's not how it's supposed to work. It's supposed to open in the player in that browser window, not externally.

Hmm, I don't like open media files in browser window. Some embedded videos crash Firefox if I use NoScript. I have found that combination VLC plugin + Media Player Classic + Quick Alternative + Real Alternative works best for me. VLC as player crashes much more often than MPC. And then I use UnPlug extension to save files to disc.

Yeah, that's fine.. but the thing is.. it has nothing to do with what the guy is reporting. He's trying to get that video to work in his browser on that page. It won't because it requires ActiveX. Anyone can launch the mms:// URL in a separate player... that's not a big deal.

It's obviously a minefield problem, is it not? Open up a bug, have someone work on it, check it in, etc.?
