If you want to be notified of Viruses, Spyware or Spam sites. Try Site Advisor (now bought by McAfee)

why???
Why hasn't the firefox team implemented any content filtering at all!? Just do it. Most of the goods features of Firefox come from extensions. "If you want a feature just look for the extension" What kind of sloth is this? What is the firefox team doing? The extensions for this aren't even good. Procon is a piece of garbage. It shows the site for a few seconds then a blocked page comes up. What good is that? And what good is it if it can easily be disabled? It doesn't even come close to the primitive content advisor of IE and it doesn't get updated regularly. Good job on never ever getting firefox adopted by the masses... congradulations.

The "Firefox team" does not write extensions. They maintain and update the core program. Independent developers create and maintain the extensions.
There have already been 198,033,687 copies of Firefox downloaded to date. It's doubtful that adding a content adviser to the main application would significantly increase the use of the browser.

Show me statistics saying that Firefox will be the dominant browser by the end of the year if we include a kickass content blocker and i get the extension for you.
I doubt Masses consider it a must be feature. If anything Masses don't care. And if you don't want Porn etc, just don't go to those sites.
If you consider ProCon a piece of garbage suggest a better one.

To be honest, I'm quite surprised such a thing hasn't been made.

You don't have a clue.
Now, most people would kill if Mozilla put a content filter into Firefox. I know I would. It's bloat. Just like the phishing protection sillyness they're including in 2.0 only because IE7 has something to that effect...
You know, Firefox' real strenght is it's very modularity. My Firefox not only looks all different from your Firefox but also acts all different. Just the way I like it.
Extensions is the perfect approach. It's not sloth, it's shrewd.

Content adviser is not a piece of code that is written and added to a program. It's a huge database of websites that your browser has to connect and query. Such database requires huge and ongoing effort and resources, has important privacy, legal and bandwidth implications, and otherwise is out of scope of mozilla's effort.
Moreover, just what is the point of an adviser that can be disabled just by going to options panel.
