Looks like IE has everything covered.

So what will FB have in 2004 (other than tabs- who knows if MS will add those too)? I"m just wondering because it seems like all the innovation has been done and all that's needed for 1.0 is some minor tweaks. Nothing revolutionary.

And umm right now IE's dl manager is better than Moz's or FB's..kinna funny considering how long Moz has been out (no pause or resume button) ;)

How will FB fit in to the new Longhorn look? Is it capable with XUL to fit in & look that guady? *looks up at IE and pukes*

Funny you were taken in by this crap. heh Actually I couldn't get to any of your pictures you posted. As to what mozilla will have in 2004, it will have character, it won't have to be updated every minute of the day, it will have a following so large it will just crush microsoft, it wont be microsoft, and really what its all about is it will be another choice of browser, if you don't like it, don't use it,

I had to do two windows updates last week. More critical security bugs I guess. I have anoher one on my home desktop waiting to be installed. Let me know when IE runs on Linux and Solaris.

Was your handle before it? NO. So at first it was not. Since you had the balls to ask a stupid question it is.

My post was about how FB doesn't seem to have it's selling feature if IE is like this in 2006. Pop ups and extensions (tabs many users won't care about until they get to know how useful they are- they say "but I have one taskbar, why should I add another! PLus XP has grouping"). And who knows? Will IE add tabs or some tabbing feature to IE since this is still ALPHA.

So, FB needs a new selling feature in 2004/6 whatever.

That's ALL. Stop projecting.

in the add on screen shot ..

uh ... no thanks.

The popup shot looked like they copied some features/extesions.

The IE screenshot certainly doesn't make me want to use that version of IE.

How about builtin Ad-Block? I don't think that Microsoft could copy that one as it would probably annoy a lot of their larger customers.

We've got two or three years to go. I'm sure what's being advertised as IE 7 in screen shots will look and act nothing like the final version when Longhorn is released. Not saying they won't have that functionality, just that it won't look like it does now. Plus, I'm quite sure the Mozilla development team has some tricks up their sleeves for the next two years. And even if they don't, I'd still stick with Firebird just because it doesn't have nor use ActiveX, and it has common ground on more than one OS.

Right, let's take these screenshots one by one. The Neowin links don't work because Neowin.net checks the referers. The screenshots can be accessed from http://www.neowin.net/comments.php?id=14694 though.

Looks nice. Seems like you can prioritise downloads and IE will automatically reconnect if required.

For those of you that Microsoft will never include popup blocking in IE, it will be in MSN Premium (MSN 9). Functionally looks about equivalent to Mozilla Firebird, though it seems that you might be able to view popups that have been blocked ('Show Pop-up windows'). Inconsistent capitalisation in menu items looks suspicious though.

Looks similar to extensions in Mozilla Firebird but with built-in updating. The text "disabling an add-on might prevent some Web pages from working" suggests that add-ons include ActiveX controls as well.

The visual style used in these screenshots is apparently called Slate, while previous builds have used Plex. The Longhorn user interface is supposed to change quite significantly between now and the final release (Microsoft apparently don't want to give the competition ideas). So I wouldn't judge IE's new appearance just yet.

The big question is: are the screenshots real. Answer: probably. Microsoft is giving attendees of its Professional Developers Conference a copy of Longhorn build 4051 (the same build that these screenshots are allegedly from), so we'll soon know when the reviews start popping up everywhere.

Where do you get 2004 from? Longhorn is due out in 2006, which means 2007. That's years away. There will be more innovation in Firebird. As far as I know, there's no plan to stop.

True, IE's download manager does look better. But will it still be better when Longhorn comes out?

I'm not sure really. Mozilla uses the
nsITheme
API to fit into with the native look-and-feel on some platforms (Windows, Mac OS X and GTK, I think). Assuming Longhorn doesn't break anything, Firebird should fit in fairly well.

Whatcha bet the upgrade download is at least twice as big as Firebird?
And the full download will be about 38MB? Or more.

Last week I got the WMP9.0 'upgrade' for WinXp Pro.
I haven't been able to get the full d/l from the MS site YET!

Yesterday there were two 'security upgrades' for it
Both totaled 4.9MB. That's about half the size of the first 'upgrade' d/l from the windows upgrade site.

So, what does this tell you about the size, and number of security holes that are apt to be in any 'new MSIE'?

Microsoft blamed their virus problems in missing their earnings estimates. This stuff does catch up with you in the marketplace. The market was not pleased last week.

Since IE 6 is the last standalone version of IE, who cares? You won't be able to get it without installing Windows Longhorn, and I guarantee you that won't be happening here!

Who knows what will happen to FB? My guess is FB will be even better that IE longhorn, since "lots" of the IE longhorn feature will be already "Improved" in FB by that time.

All those feature in IE longhorn is already present in FB.
