Is there any way to remove some of the default search engines that come preinstalled with Firefox? I use the google search engine and I added the wikipedia engine as well as the thottbot engine. I'm just hoping I can remove the other search engines I don't use such as answers.com and ebay to select the others a little easier.
Is there any away to do this without having to go and delete the engines from the /searchplugins/ folder? I did that last time but then when I tried to update FF I kept getting an error that all the files couldn't be updated, every time I ran the program.

with FF1.5 ... the manuel way or a extension are the solution ... the error message you are getting should have been fix by now
with FF2.0 .... its just a simple delete ....

--> Search Engine Ordering ... Rearrange the search engines in Firefox' search bar! You can use Drag & Drop to change the order as you want or right click somewhere in the menu to sort them alphabetically. Unwanted engines can be deleted just with a right click. (Makes SearchPluginHacks unnecessary.) You can even add an engine to the menu by right clicking the search field of a web page and choosing "Add this Search to the Search Bar".
