Why does Firebird want to act as a server when it first starts?
ZoneAlarm reports a request from Firebird to act as a server.
Denying this request and allowing it to access the internet seems
to work fine, but as this is the first I've used this program, I don't
really know what to expect.

there has been numerous reports of problems between ZoneAlarm and Firebird.
Firebird doesn't want to act as a server, but does run a recursion between two ports.
you can allow the request without worries.
I recall popup-blocking to be dependant on the recursion. does Firebird block popus for you?
I'm nice

Yes, it still blocks pop-ups when denied server permission by ZoneAlarm.
Thanks for the reply. I know nothing of programing, but I couldn't see why
a browser would need to act as a server routinely. Your explaination helps.
