Try opening Firefox in Firefox Safe Mode and see if the problem goes away. If it does, you have an extension that's conflicting with Flash Player:

I ran Firefox in safe mode through typing firefox.exe -safe-mode in the run command and the problem still exists.

I can give a little more detail on how the problem happens. Sometime it crashes firefox, poping up a sending system error confirmation thing. Other time it doesn't crashes, but freeze in a sense. Clicking on link and things won't work, though (since I have tabs open) when I click close and the confirmation for all tabs to be close pops ups, the performed action goes through. Let me be more understanding. Let's stay I have 2 tab open, tab a and tab b. Tab a is youtube and it freezes firefox. If I click on tab b nothing will happen, but if I close firefox and a confirmation message pops up, it'll go to tab b. When I agree to exit firefox the illegal operation message pops up. Also I'm wondering why my crashing feed back option for firefox isn't showing up no longer, it used to but I'm not sure what I did, not sure if I turned it off or something, because I believe in the feedback thing it shows a lot more of the technical coding and stuff of the program before crashing or so.

Thanks for your help.

I am having this problem as well and so far the one thing that works in installing Flash 7. However, that solution is utterly ridiculous because it has worse quality and is simply outright incompatible with many sites.

To make matters worse, whatever was broken with Flash when I installed Firefox 2, has universally broken it in other browsers as well. I'm typing this from Opera, which cannot use the latest Flash player now either without problems.

I've tried just about everything short of reinstalling windows so far, but you can be sure if that happens I'm not going to take Firefox with me anymore. Hope someone can figure this out.

I can only suggest uninstalling Flash Player using the steps provided in the following link:

http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgeb ... d=tn_14157

...then going to the next link using Firefox (different installer from IE), downloading the Flash installer for non-IE browsers, CLOSING ALL BROWSERS, then run the installer (it takes about a second to install):

I've tried that, and I just tried it again. Unfortunately it doesn't work. I tried it along with the third suggestion in the KB article, I thought might as well try uninstalling and reinstalling first before downgrading to 7, but it doesn't change anything. Thanks for your help though. Do you know who I could get in contact with to further solve this problem? perhaps I should e-mail one of the developers?

Thanks again.

Aha! The following link explains a lot, it seems flash is now vulnerable to type of virus called a rootkit that causes these crashes. I found a suspicious start up file using the process below, in the process of hopefully removing it now...

this is the link I read : http://forums.tweakguides.com/showthread.php?t=4224

I'll post if this solves my problem after I finish scanning/going through the process.

SUCCESS! The program sophos anti-rootkit mentioned above found the hidden files. Then you just check "clean up" it recommends not to, but definitely do. Fixed my flash!

Okay so I've taken a look into what rootkit really is and it can be a serious problem. It also has nothing to do with firefox at all, so I'm off on my own I guess or to other forums. But a suggestion to other who have the problem too and non of the steps helps, it might be because you have rootkit, a virus that hides itself/other viruses and conflicts with flash too I suppose. I'll post more info when I find some useful one or fixed my problem.

Thanks for the suggestion

Flash Crash

Post by Dreadicon »

I Have the same problem; Firefox will crash every time I pull up a Youtube video. in addition, it will crash instantly sometimes on flash banner using sites (like Hotmail, Myspace, IGN, Gamespot, etc.) others times give a message and partially freeze, and sometimes there won't be any problem at all. However, only sites with flash crash it. This problem has existed on my computer for the past 8 months, before Flash 9 and Firefox 2.0
One more problem i've been experiencing is the flash installers and uninstallers themselves will load, then disapear and do nothing. they will remain in the Task manager under the Processes tab, but even if left alone for several hours, they won't finish installing or uninstalling. I've exited all programs and even ended all unnecessary tasks in Task manager while running said install/uninstall files to no avail as well. I've attempted installing and uninstalling Firefox numerous times with no results, including a manual removal of remaining files and Firefox directories. I've removed and reinstalled flash files several times also (manually) still yielding no results. However, seince flash seems to permiate the System folder I've yet been unable to replace all Flash-related files.
Is there any way to remove ALL flash/macromedia-related files from a computer manually? Including system files and files related to IE? I'd like to try that if no one can come up with a better plan....

There seems to be a lot of that going around.

Here's a link to the Sophos Anti-Rootkit web page (it's a free product):

http://www.sophos.com/products/free-too ... otkit.html

...and a link to the anti-rootkit user manual (13 short pages that you NEED to read):
