Universal Tab [X] is gone!

Post by twigxp »

I am VERY disappointed that the [X] on the far right of the Tab Bar, that closed the current tab like in v1.5, is gone! and replaced with the drop-down of currently open tabs. I LOVED that feature and used it all the time... Is there a way the get this feature back???

Thanks in advance

Type about:config in the location bar, paste browser.tabs.closeButtons into the filter box, right-click on the preference, choose modify, and set the value to 3. You might have to open a new window for the new setting to take effect.

Very Cool! thanks!
... is there a way to keep the [X]'s on the tabs as well as the universal one?

Yes, via installing Tab Mix Plus extension:

An X on the tab means tou don't have to right click => close tab. Gets annoying when you open dozens of tabs like me..

An X on every tab should be in the main version!!

Uh, it is built-in to the 2.0 version. 2.0 got rid of the universal X at the end of the row, though, but that can be added back either via about:config or TabMixPlus extension.

Thanks for these 2 tips. Loss of the universal x is my only disappointment with 2.0 so far.
I only discovered by chance that 2.0 existed. Why wasn't it automatically offered as an update?

i used to feel the same way, until i got used to the [x] per tab.
when i used firefox 1.5 the other day, having to move the mouse all the way to the right
regardless of where the active tab was seemed a little strange.

i'd boil it down to personal preference, but i'm pretty satisfied with how it is now.

why put an [x] on anything at all?
boils down to preference.

Not all of us have a mouse that does that.

You don't know what you're missing. If I have to use a mouse without scroll-wheel I feel like I've lost one hand.
