Spell Checker for Firebird

Now I'm testing spell checker in Thunderbird with Firebird.

Thunderbird has a built in spellchecker, I think.

It works nice, but it tends to crash Firebird quite easly though, such as when I click on the replace button half of the time.

Will the Canadian dictionary work with this spell checker? http://downloads.mozdev.org/dictionarie ... -en-CA.xpi


Another thing... did you use part of external app buttons to make this or something as the extension description says ... Launch other applications from your toolbar. hehe

Thunderbird has a built in spellchecker, I think.

It's not for Thunderbird. It's for Firebird to spell check web forms and such. Examples are webmail, forums, etc.

After thousands of crashes, I finally got it work.
Very simple solution.
Install components at spellchecker.mozdev.org (for moz 1.5a) to your firebird.

This is Spell Checker Front End 0.2

Maybe I have to change thread title. Apparently, spellchecker built in TB is customized only for TB and does not work with FB.

p.s. front end 0.1 has a bug so that you can't uninstall it. After 0.2 installation, you can unregister it.

Yes. hehe. I just replaced "externalapp" with "spellchecker". I overlooked it because it doesn't contains the word "external"...

Please right click in a textarea or a input type=text. And select "Spellchecker".

Have to say good job! The only thing (ui) that I would change is to have a visible border for the text display at the top, like there is a border for the "replace with" and "suggestions" boxes. Other than that, great work!

Okay so I guess the previous one was not meant for Firebird, hence why it crashed easily, This new one works great as It has not crashed yet.

The Canadian dictionary works too.

I never bothered with spell checkers before but I find this one to be quite handy, compared to looking in a dictionary for each word heh.

Thank you for many feedbacks, and I'm feeling sorry for those who tested the crashy version.

if you could combine the components and make it just one xpi installation.

Spell checker components are a mature product, which have been polished for 3 years. On the other hand, my front end said hello to firebird just 3 days ago, still having a lot of things to do. Another reason for keep them separate is DL size; 450K and 17K. And components are not cross platform. However, in the future, if FE would be stable enough, I might change my mind.

It's no strange. Generally speaking, creating a new profile solves various problems like a charm, but in this case, spellchecker components are installed into your program directory so that it didn't help you. Please click the link below and try again.

I created this post with a few spelling errors to see if it would pick them up

It seemed to do quite admirably. Feature request though... could you add the ability to check words in line... just change the background behind them or maybe even an MS Office style squiggly line under the offending word?
