At the moment, I test build
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de; rv:1.8.1.2pre) Gecko/20070210 BonEcho/2.0.0.2pre ID:2007021003

I see a strange behaviour when clicking on weblinks on my Desktop, if firefox is closed:

- a window of firefox opens which shows the default page (google.de)
- directly after that, a second window of firefox opens which shows desired weblink from my desktop.

It doesn't happen if firefox is already open.

What's wrong here?
It doesn't happen with official FF V2.0.0.1 build.

Somewhat Confirmed: For me, I don't get a window with my default homepage; I get a Windows error message stating that "Windows cannot find..." the web link (even though it does load, without incident, if Fx is already open). This is then followed by Firefox launching and loading my previous session (as should).

I downloaded the 2.0.0.2 RC zip file. Still won't set itself as the default browser under Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit.

Lone Sheperd - there are registry keys that need to be set that require elevated privs. To do this you must install using the installer and not the zip build.

Firefox is not set as the default browser during installation. This is a prompt when you first run firefox.exe -- which happens after installation. Firefox needs to be smart enough to prompt for elevation to set the default browser privileges, or at least display a "could not set default browser" message, rather than silently failing.

And, even if you run the installer, Firefox does not show up in Control Panel\Programs\Set Program Access and Defaults in the Web Browser section (like Winamp does in the Media Player section). It probably should.

Only the installer builds are officially supported and yes, we are planning on adding the ability for what you are asking for. There is just only so much time and resources... for now, you have to use the installer on Vista for it to set the required registry keys.

btw: It does show up for me and everyone that tested it the last two test days.

Testing RC1, when opening a page from another application, such as clicking a link on a messenger convo, if Firefox is closed, it opens with two tabs, one with the home page, one with the new page. Is this functionality intended?

Confirming Andreasm82's post here for me.

#370053[Firefox:OS Integration]-Clicking a URL shortcut icon opens two instances of Firefox [Win]
just landed on the trunk. But unless another 2.0.0.2 respin is needed it missed the 2.0.0.2 boat.

WRT bug #370053, according to release schedule for 2.0.0.2, bug checkin was frozen on 7 Feb, 2.0.0.2 final is due to on 21 Feb so I suppose we may see #370053 land on branch shortly after? I shall be watching with interest as I raised this bug and Gran Paradiso is currently too bleeding edge for me.
