Fox news videos will not work on Firefox. They will run on Internet Explorer. I have been researching for answers as to why they will not run on FF...I have version 2.0.0.3. I tried using Greasemonkey and greasemonkey user script as suggested on one site. Nothing works. Could it have something to do with Active X? Other videos work fine on FF such as CNN, Yahoo, CBS. I have the latest flash player 9, WMP 10, lava JRE 1.6.1. Thanks for any help.

The problem is with ad blocking (or at least it used to be). I know Rick (of Rick's Easy Filter fame) had to put a special exemption is his filter to allow Fox News videos to play. Like was said above, they're just Flash videos so there's no evil WMV stuff lurking there.

If I remember correctly, the videos come from "foxnews.com/video2". Maybe someone with some knowledge in this stuff can figure out we can modify our hostperm and/or CSS to allow these things to work.

EDIT: Just checked with my Minefield build from this past week and the videos play fine. No need for IE.

I removed all references to ad.doubleclick.net but still not playing Foxnews.com. It is a problem with Firefox Browser...not with the host file. All other browsers play the videos.

If you are having problems getting the videos to play in Camino, be sure to have these prefs set before visiting the site:

[0] The videos are in Flash, so obviously make sure you have the latest Flash plug-in from Adobe (currently 9.0r28)
[1] *Uncheck* all three of the Annoyance Blocking features in Preferences>Web Features
[2] Accept all 13 billion cookies the site will attempt to put on your system.

Vids will play fine...

I'm using 1.0.4 with no third party pref panes installed.

Fox's video player fails completely and utterly if you block cookies, and they don't bother to explain that that's the problem. If a webmaster really wants to require cookies for their site to work, there's really not much that you can do other than accept cookies (or find another site).

I don't have any cookies blocked. I have the latest flash player 9.0.45.0
and firefox plugins https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:7
Still not working on Firefox.

No I don't use Adblock Plus.
Maybe it is related to me using MVPS host?
It blocks ads, banners and 3rd party cookies.
I can watch videos from CNN, Yahoo, CBS, and all other sites with no problem.

People are going to have problems with host files and videos. There are an increasing number of normal news sites that have video served through known advertisers.

Like jcraig said above, Adblock Plus with the EasyList subscription (not sure about how others are handling that) has taken care of most of those adserving video problems. Unfortunately, a host file is not so easy as far as problems like that go. You certainly wouldn't want to allow ALL of doubleclick.

Unfortunately I don't think ABP will override blocks in a host file.

Thanks for the comment. I'm going to keep MVP hosts file.
If I want to watch Fox news videos I will use Internet Explorer or Opera browsers.
They work fine. I would rather stay with FF but it looks like I can't.

Something is unique to Firefox that does not allow this viewing.
