Thunderbird 2 Is Now Available!

Post by mscott »

<a href="http://www.mozilla.com/thunderbird/">Thunderbird 2</a> is now available for download on Windows, Mac and Linux in over 35 languages.

Thunderbird 1.5.0.x users will be offered Thunderbird 2 via software update at a later date. Those wishing to upgrade now are therefore advised to download and install Thunderbird 2 manually.

The <a href="http://mozilla.com/thunderbird/features">Thunderbird 2 features page</a> has more details about the new features in Thunderbird 2. The <a href="http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/2.0.0.0/releasenotes/">Thunderbird 2 Release Notes</a> have more specific information.
The Rumbling Edge has a list of <a href="http://weblogs.mozillazine.org/rumblingedge/archives/2007/03/tb_2.html">notable bug fixes in Thunderbird 2</a>.

Woo Hoo!

We want to extend a huge thanks to everyone here in the forums for their help and support with Thunderbird 2 over the past year. We wouldn't have been able to release Thunderbird without you. A special thanks to the awesome forum moderators and everyone who organizes and participates in Joe's weekly testing threads.

You all rock!

It might be interesting to put here or maybe start a new thread where we can link to articles and reviews on Thunderbird 2. I wonder if folks would find that valuable. As we all find stuff, we could link to it.

Is there any code change from the RC?

I'm wondering if the GB dictionary was fixed

Too bad that bug 373366 wasn't fixed before release. (Or in fact, even paid attention to at all.)

This is a rather nasty regression for those of us that a) use IMAP, and b) use “wait NNN seconds before marking a message as read.
(Messages greater than 30 KB are marked read immediately.)

The regression is caused by IMAP MIME parts on demand functionality, it seems.

richard_leeds: The dictionary installation problem has nothing to do with Thunderbird. The dictionaries on amo need to be updated; the amo team is already aware of this problem and will fix it as soon as the dictionary authors answer to their e-mails.

Back to the topic... yay. :D

I saw this with the 1.5.0.10 update and it seems to be happening with 2.0 as well. The Logitech webcam software is grabbing a file from Thunderbird and, because it is using it, the installation fails. This was the case in this topic: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=541128

I see this as a definite problem with the Logitech software.

So far it looks great. It seems lots faster than 1.5.

But just in case anyone hasn't pointed this out, do you realize there are two Forward Buttons on the toolbar now with totally different meanings? Wouldn't Previous and Next be better for the navigation buttons?
