aebrahim: W32 2003-12-10 optimised for P3/P4/Athlon/AthlonXP

Post by aebrahim »

I'm leaving for London today. I'll be on dialup while I'm there, so I won't be online a lot. I'll try and post weekly builds from there (zip only, no 7z sfx), but I might not be able to. I'll return to Chicago on 6th January. In any case, this is the last build for at least a few days, if not until I get back. It depends largely on how fast CVS is from over there and how long it takes to upload all the builds.

I built Mozilla Firebird today from CVS with MSVC++ .NET 2003 using some optimisations. To build on MSVC++ .NET 2003, I used the temporary solution provided here. The one bug that's blocking full native build support on MSVC++ .NET 2003 (without any code modifications) is:

http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=208314

If you'd like to see native build support for MSVC++ .NET 2003, please sign into Bugzilla and vote for this bug, or better yet, contribute a patch. Thanks.

Optimised for Pentium 4, Pentium M, Celeron 1.7GHz+ and Athlon64 with SSE2 (-Oxs -G7 -arch:SSE2):
http://pryan.org/firebird/aebrahim/Mozi ... 7-SSE2.zip (6.26MB - zip)
http://pryan.org/firebird/aebrahim/Mozi ... 7-SSE2.exe (4.59MB - 7z sfx)
The above build will work on Pentium 4, Pentium M, Celeron 1.7 GHz and above and Athlon64 systems ONLY.

Optimised for Athlon XP and some newer Durons with SSE (-Oxs -G7 -arch:SSE):
http://pryan.org/firebird/aebrahim/Mozi ... G7-SSE.zip (6.26MB - zip)
http://pryan.org/firebird/aebrahim/Mozi ... G7-SSE.exe (4.59MB - 7z sfx)
The above build will work on systems that support the SSE instruction set ONLY.

Optimised for Pentium III and Pentium III based Celerons with SSE (-Oxs -G6 -arch:SSE):
http://pryan.org/firebird/aebrahim/Mozi ... G6-SSE.zip (6.26MB - zip)
http://pryan.org/firebird/aebrahim/Mozi ... G6-SSE.exe (4.59MB - 7z sfx)
The above build will work on systems that support the SSE instruction set ONLY.

Optimised for non-SSE Athlons (-Oxs -G7):
http://pryan.org/firebird/aebrahim/Mozi ... Oxs-G7.zip (6.26MB - zip)
http://pryan.org/firebird/aebrahim/Mozi ... Oxs-G7.exe (4.58MB - 7z sfx)

checkout start: Wed Dec 10 01:13:41 PST 2003

I should note that I can't guarantee that these builds will work with Windows 95 (Microsoft has removed Windows 95 as a target platform on their .NET 2003 version of development tools), but they will work with Windows 98/NT4 or better, and probably on Windows 95 too.

You can find a copy of these builds (and my older builds) on pryan's mirror:
http://pryan.org/firebird/aebrahim

My .mozconfig is as follows:

. $topsrcdir/browser/config/mozconfig
ac_add_options --disable-tests
ac_add_options --disable-debug
ac_add_options --enable-optimize="see build info"
ac_add_options --enable-static
ac_add_options --disable-shared

My builds have the following preference set:
pref("general.useragent.vendorComment", "aebrahim");

I've included a copy of my .mozconfig in the build folder itself. For more on what the optimisation switches do see this link:

Have a nice trip there. Been a pleasure using your builds....

Have a nice trip aebrahim. Hope you will come back home without having any trouble. May god bless you.

Installed Extension: TBE 2003120902 (+ patch in userChrome.css) + Textlinks = No Problems. Running smooth and fast.

Thank you!

That's not part of my distro. It's part of ercan's setup.

The TBE patch (for the latest version) is from Piro's board:

This is a temporary patch.
http://white.sakura.ne.jp/~piro/xul/for ... 112359.css
Copy the lines and paste to the file "userChrome.css".

Hmm, I installed it, even after deleting my old profile, nothing comes up. I can't even get in to create a new profile.

Did you delete your program folder, too?

Installed the updated version (TBE 2003120902 = patch) and didn't have the pull down Tab on the Menu so I couldn't customize any of TBE. Installed it all over a clean install of both directories. Had to uninstall everything again and reinstalled with older extension to get it all to work.
