Current "Gotchas" for Trunk Testers

Since 2007-08-09 Switching views with View | Layout will immediately crash TB This is a known Core problem.
Workaround: Don't switch views

Since 2007-08-13 You will need to "select" an app to call a link.
This is stored in mimeTypes.rdf but is not editable in the TB UI

Workaround: Don't save the selection, or backup your mimetypes.rdf.

Since 2007-08-29 Some winxp users will crash on startup depending on your XP version and environment.
Workaround:
Download this free windows update to your winxp
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en
Brief Description
The Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86) installs runtime components of Visual C++ Libraries
required to run applications developed with Visual C++ on a computer that does not have Visual C++ 2005 installed.
Please note that this component is not updated with the normal windows update method

My nightlies have been running fine for the last few days, however I see a burst of crashes in crash-reporter.
http://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/l ... 400x283106
These seem to have a different crash signature from what we have been seeing.

I don't see a bug report related to this new "crash"

The last two nightly builds are crashing ot startup for me normal and safe mode. I even tried this :
JoeS wrote:For those Trunk testers that are stillgetting a crash on statup (and there appears to be several hundred of you)
You might try an alternative to upgrading your windows VC runtime.
This worked for Seamonkey users, so try copying the following files from the Thunderbird folder to /components
Microsoft.VC80.CRT.manifest
msvcm80.dll
msvcp80.dll
msvcr80.dll

But it doesn't help.
I'm running Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9a8pre) Gecko/2007080807 Thunderbird/3.0a1pre Mnenhy/0.7.5.0 ID:2007090904 as the last that is starting up.
Windows Vista Ultimate
Not tested with clean profile.

With the starting date of your problem, I don't think it's related to the VC8 issues.
I don't use Vista, so can't help there.
You might want to make a comment in:
# 392931 [mozilla.org] - Move Thunderbird Windows Build to the New Reference Platform [Win]
Because I think that fits your timeframe.

Old post deleted.
Yep you are right. 10.09.2007 is working for me but 11,12,13,14,15 are not. So it must be related to this bug.

I don't have a lot of feeds set up in my branch TB, but what I have seem to be working fine in:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.7pre) Gecko/20070917 Thunderbird/2.0.0.7pre ID:2007091703
No errors in error console.

Here's 2 examples

What OS are you using ?

latest nightly won't start - gets to about 12m in task manager and stops. started with -Profilemanager but never gets to that dialog.

winxp sp1. the MSVC CRT 2005 package had already been long installed and trunk worked as of a week or so ago.

Some very strange symptoms on this bug, see
# 396522 [Thunderbird] - Profile Manager won't start up since Thunderbird trunk 2007/9/11 build on MS Win-XP [Win]
And:
# 394190 [Core:Build Config] - seamonkey/thunderbird not starting up due to CRT/manifest issues in components [Win]

it turns out that after installing the msvcrt sp1, Tb needs to also be reinstalled (i did an uninstall first rather than installing over the existing trunk).
