I have upgraded to 2.0.0.6 but found my UK spell check did not carry across. I have downloaded the spell check add on and followed the installation instructions but it does not install. If it has installed, it certainly does not work and does not appear as an add on under options.

There are problems with the setup file for the UK dictionary that prevent it from being installed. The Dictionary Fix extension can help you with this, see http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=561644

To repeat, in slightly different terms; carefully read
Dictionaries - MozillaZine Knowledge Base
Be sure that the method you are using is installing the dictionary in Thunderbird and not in Firefox.
Manual installation as described there might work for you
but the DictionaryFix extension there mentioned should work as a last resort solution.
Install your dictionary from Dictionaries :: Thunderbird Add-ons since some of the other references lead to out-of-date dictionaries.
