MyIE2 & Gecko support...

Post by mezziah »

Read the details here

What do you think? Is it legal, that they've included the Gecko rendering engine?

I'm going to test the whole thing now, sounds interesting.

I like it. Gecko's number one goal was to make people more standards-aware and now that it's in myIE2 and people are going to test it and go "Hey, my site sucks in Gecko." and hopefully will do something about it (like come here). BTW, I wonder if the myIE2 team contacted the Mozilla Foundation at all.

Yes. Would be nice to see that the user can decide between two different rendering engines. I really like the idea, but I didn't see a Gecko implementation. Maybe I'm kinda blind or they haven't implemented it yet. Hmm... :-k

I don't think that they've contacted the Mozilla Foundation. If it were so, everyone would know it. But do we? Let's see, what they do with the Gecko engine in the future.

This belongs in "building things with mozilla" but only and Admin can move it.

Yes, of course it is legal. We want people to ship the GRE instead of IE.

Yep fully legal even Microsoft or even you could add such a feature.
Aslong as they are following the MPL/LGPL/GPL tri-license.

Well, that's one way for people to interpret it. The other way is "wow, this Gecko thing really sucks, it really botches rendering my website."

What does MyIE2's UA string look like when you flip it to Gecko mode? Or in it's original mode, for that matter?

Is it on by default?

If this is true it'll be excellent as myIE is one of the more popular shells, if they dump IE from inside it would be a great help as most of the morons who use it won't notice.

Not that their entire user base are morons, just most of it :)

Of course, they wouldn't be myIE then. They'd be myGecko. Sounds better. Liek you have a pet gecko.

atleast our influence is spreading. I've converted 2 people over the holiday break so far.

I'm sorry. I recognized it too late.

Memory usage is almost identical to Firebird's usage with same tabs open (while using Gecko) - but much lower using IE.
