Firefox not connecting to the internet.

Post by Ronny Joseph »

hi everyone,
have a little problem with firefox here. some time back, i uninstalled firefox for no reason whatsoever. since then, firefox doesn't connect to the internet. i have no firewall or some other internet filtering software on my system and so there is no question of any program blocking its access.

all my other programs can access the internet perfectly well. is there any software bug?
i have the setup file of version 2.0.0.8.i am using flock right now.

please help me if you know any solution.

thank you.
cheers!

OK... Download and run this program.... Enum Process http://www.trolly.homepage.t-online.de/tools.html by trolly, who is a Moderator here
Post the results in this thread....
This will show if you have any firewall processes still running from software that you have uninstalled...
Some software leaves little surprises behind....
If Flock works, then Firefox should too, as Flock is based on Firefox.

Try downloading a new copy of Firefox 2.0.0.9, from here http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ as that is now out, and has fixed a few things that were causing problems in previous versions.

Please DO NOT PM me for support... Lets keep it on the board, so we can all learn.

My bet would be on Kaspersky software. Read this article: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firewalls#Kaspersky_firewall . Also this: http://noise.loud.googlepages.com/home .

Please let us know what happens, since you may have posted some useful information.

That's exactly what I expected. There's a bug in Kaspersky software. No, actually there are two problems. It doesn't shut down when you think it has, and it blocks DNS. Either of those can shut you down. Read the links I gave you and that will tell you what you need to know.

thnx for the reply guys.....yes you were right . it was kaspersky blocking access. i uninstalled it and installed nod32 antivirus. and now everything is working fine.

also, one more small question........do you think a firewall should be present in a pc?
my pc remains connected to the net all day......but i don't have a firewall installed.
if yes, please specify the antivirus/firewall cobination you would prefer.

Kaspersky is often recommended, and it's probably very good. If you can (1) read the directions and (2) learn to handle the two quirks, you should be fine. Just about all Internet security programs seem to have some problem or other. Disabling a firewall is almost never a good way to troubleshoot.

I second the suggestion to buy a router. They are excellent protection. But you need to (1) CHANGE ALL THE PASSWORDS!!!!! ; (2) shut off all unneeded services, especially plug-and-play. That means shutting off almost everything. Routers come preconfigured with holes. You can test your setup at www.grc.com . Look for ShieldsUP!.

I had Kaspersky Internet Security installed on my Computer. It was uninstalled in formating. When trying to reinstall Kaspersky, it does not connect showing server not available for the last several days. Kaspersky is not expired. Is there any solution?
