[Question] Firefox Ultimate Optimizer v1.0

Post by aHfUi »

Hi all.
Is this safe to use?
I post the question at kaspersky forum before.
It is becos KIS detect it as adware.
But i thinks it is quite useful to reduce the firefox usage ram.
Please leave down your feedback and suggestion to me.

It doesn't seem to be posted at any of the major download sites but pirate sites show up in a google for it......
http://www.google.com/search?q=firefox+ ... r&ie=UTF-8

And here's a brief discussion at Kaspersky forum about it.........
http://forum.kaspersky.com/lofiversion/ ... 51946.html

Doesn't sound so safe to me!!

edit: @ aHfUi - It looks like you were the one in the Kaspersky thread! Persistent eh?

yes, i did. that's why i was wondering aloud and since it was featured on gHacks, i'm afraid that more users might be tempted to try it unless there is a statement stating the danger in one of the KB articles.

It's not a virus. It just frees the memory by swapping data and optimizing several things.
Now you can find it at softonic
I'm using it and I've check it on my computer with Avira and Nod32 and it's not a virus.

Just snake oil. Like fasterfox more trouble than it's worth.

Virus or not, that is the kind of thing that will eventually cause some real problems for (unaware) Firefox users, and in the end Firefox itself.
I know it's not possible, but I would personally like to see every extension for Firefox go through the Mozilla review and clearance process.

It uses the Win32 API call EmptyWorkingSet() every 5 seconds, according to the author. You can do the same thing with empty.exe (comes with the Windows Resources Kit) in a batch file or Windows Script Host script. No need for his executable. And it is snake oil. There's no such thing as a free lunch.
