Dear All,
I have tested Fx3b2 and now b3... I am very impressed, it is much lighter on my low-performance computer than fx2. I have reported a few bugs.

I have "accidentally" deleted Smart Bookmarks from my bookmark toolbar folder.

I think it is a useful feature and I would like to put it back. How do I do this?

Thanks,
Riddick

Moving to Firefox Builds where the BETA TEST versions are discussed.

change in about:config,
browser.places.createdSmartBookmarks > true/false
then restart.

(change it to true so it gets restored)

Thanks, that worked nicely, but the element had to be set to false instead of true (it was true already).

Thanks for your help

I decided to try Beta 3 to prepare to update my personal extensions... First I tried the portable version just to take a glance without configuring my PC, and it looks great... So, I bit the bullet and installed beta 3 (and configured it to work with a brand new profile alongside my version 2 installation). Opened it up and there is no smart bookmarks folder like there was in the portable version. Tried resetting the setting mentioned above in about:config, rebooting, and still nothing. I've set it to true and rebooted, set it to false and rebooted; tried it several times; yet nothing. Tried yet another brand new profile... still no smart bookmarks folder.

Any ideas what to try now????

@RLSpencer:
Like Riddick had suggested, you must set the value to "false" first in the "about:config" screen before restarting. After that, the Smart Bookmarks folder will be recreated automatically!

I've tried NUMEROUS times switching back and forth between true and false, rebooting after each and still nothing. I just cannot get it to appear no matter what. It still shows up fine when I try the portable version off a thumb drive, but nothing with the regular version. Flipping that setting back and forth multiple times, new profile, completely reinstalling; all fail to fix the problem.

Just out of curiosity, do you happen to know where the profile is created/stored by the "portable version" off of your thumb drive? Also, indicating what your OS is **might** shed some light. I have no idea... just going through the motion of what I'd do troubleshooting the problem for myself... Also, have you tried the latest nightly build?

Create a bookmark folder.
Create these three bookmarks:

Most Visited
place:queryType=0&sort=8&maxResults=10

Recently Bookmarked
place:folder=2&folder=5&folder=3&queryType=1&sort=12&excludeItemIfParentHasAnnotation=livemark%2FfeedURI&maxResults=10&excludeQueries=1

Recent Tags
place:folder=4&group=3&queryType=1&applyOptionsToContainers=1&sort=12&maxResults=10

Problem solved...

I compared the portable Firefox settings to the regular ones and found another missing setting - browser.places.createdDefaultQueries.

In addition to the browser.places.createdSmartBookmarks setting, this setting was also missing. When I added it to about.config, the Smart Bookmarks folder immediately showed up.

Do you know if there are plans to add in the GUI a method for restoring the Smart Bookmarks? It is pretty straightforward to delete them, which is good but can make an accident all the more likely. It should be equally easy for the user to restore it. There should be a menu item in Bookmarks "Restore Smart Bookmarks" or something similar. The bookmarks menu was my first instinct. Hunting through options might make it harder to find the option.
