Frank Lion,
for a brief period, this was the first hit on Google when searching Firefox. Some individuals know how to embed markers that enable Google to snag their URL for posted search results. If I remember correctly, it may have even been a Sponsored Link, making it more believable. Google typically monitors and fixes these issues (current search for Firefox does not bring it up in the first page). The only way you can find it now is if you search for Firefox 2008 explicitly.

I don't know if this website advertises anywhere. (only saw it through Google a week ago when I was trying to install Firefox on someone else's PC)

Many thanks for info. If you ever spot a link for this rip-off trash on any real Mozilla related site, could you please PM me? ...I will then deal with it. ;)

"...a Sponsored Link, making it more believable." Huh? Twilight Zone, maybe.

download ripoff

Post by tascadero »

I too was taken in by the 2008 Firefox download. I didn't realize it was downloadable for free and paid the mymusicbill.com site $39 for 3 years of Firefox. Then it wouldn't even download!

After finding the information here, I was able to have my credit card company credit my account the $39.

Thanks, folks!

Hello everyone...I hate to say it, but some of those links on that webpage are directing you to a Russian website and maybe a Russian server.

Hi Frank,

I saw a Google ad here in the forums for the 2008Firefox website a couple of times last week. Now today I see an ad for another website called Softhip. You have to check it out at http ://firefox.softhip.com/. Does their website remind you of a favorite website? Here is a screenshot of the ad on mozillazine.

Thanks Terence, I will now soon be 'discussing' this subject with both the Admins of MozillaZine, as a matter of urgency.

I will say nothing further on this, for the time being.

And the one on http ://firefox.softhip.com/ is bundled with known rogue antimalware programs. This is getting nasty.
